Being Hawaiian: Then & Now

Life seems impossible when we, Hawaiians are blamed for everything. We embraced those who traveled here and yet our people live in poverty (state/fed guidelines). Well, who contributed to this mess? Similar to Native Indians and Black Americans still struggling as Native Hawaiians! Yet, Westerners who are against Native Hawaiians have not experienced what our own people suffered - colonization through the illegal occupation of Hawaii since the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893.We fight for everything we believe in and what is pono! Hawaiians were deprived of exploring and learning about their culture. Westerners did a favor for us, they kept records and those very records exploited their actions and betrayalsWhy are Westerners afraid that the 'aina that they made their riches fom will be returned to Hawaiians? We struggled to prosper in a culture that nearly decimated our language. We must we fight for everything that is rightfully ours. Linda Lingle has made little effort to makes things pono! Guess what, I voted for this ihepa! Our ancestors. Yes, our kupuna struggled and signed the Ku'e Petition against annexation. By far, we will endure to the end.I had heard a comment, "It will never happen in your life time." Well, it may not, who knows? In the meantime, every Hawaiian has a right to self determination and we will prevail against all odds! Our racedidn't die out! We are here to stay!

  • The weather is nice, alllowing me to do genealogy research. I pulled out records for all lines and refresh my "brain." Global warming and changes is happening faster this year -its our stand against those who stole our lands!
  • Cali is unusually WARM, for over a week now. It's just so unusual for now. Even last night it wasn't cold and I forgot I had my windows closed, so the apt. was kinda warm this a.m. Just weird. Feels like summer will be even hotter now.

So how's it going back home?
  • Aloha,

Yes, we take pride in what we believe is pono. Doing something about rather doing nothing. Great way to word it in simple terms. How Cali?
  • Yep, I DITTO exactly what Kalani M. says...
  • That mentality, the "it will never happen in your life time" seems to be ingrained in everyone. That's one thing I've noticed, that pessimistic attitude that has been passed on generation to generation. Because of that, they criticize those who oppose or fight. We were taught how shame dat kine behavior is. I say go for it, ku'e. Better to try to make a difference than to be angry and bitter about it but never tried anything.
