  • Aloha no! Yes, they still demean us today regardless. However, we are all winners. By doing a historical analysis on our po'e, we have come a long ways in comapriosn to being stagnant. Many lies have been told and yet they contributed to use becoming socially and ecomincally at a disadvantage! My literature chapter in my dissertation was praised by the commitee members. I've learned more in the last six months about our true history and not pleasant, but real. However, comments made to sterotype will make anyone feel uncomfortable. I felt ashamed at times, but never had a "stuck up attitude" that I'm better because I pursued post secondary education.

I was a the social security office today and was reviewing ha'awina. I read words in 'Olelo Hawaii with my youngest daughter and counted in 'Olelo Hawaii. I was not ashamed to read my book in pulbic. People observed me and i continued to read aloud in 'Olelo Hawaii. A woman asked me about the language and I was not ashamed to answer eventhough she is Kanaka Maoli. I practice when I drive, in the shower and at the store. I'm never to old to learn the language again. It is for the children and help to perpetuate our culture too.

Never be ashamed of being KANAKA MAOLI. It was not us we did the HEWA! The fake State of Hawaii did a poor job educating all people, specifically our own people. BE AKAMAI and stay in school.
  • Aloha kaua e Alice.

I heard something similar from a non-oiwi counselor at Kamehameha Schools. He didn't tell me that I am dumb. Instead he told me that my family was too poor for me to attend the University of Washington. I was super poor as in socially economically and having-a-home disadvantaged... but I found a way.

Some people talk crap though... to try to discourage oiwi. Jerks!

    Malama.
