Amos n Andy: Anatomy of a Controversy

Minorities have often been the butt of jokes and so-called ethnic humor. The Amos n Andy show was one of the most controversial, yet most loved, shows on radio and television. It was forced off the air in 1966 after protests were lodged by the N.A.A.C.P. This documentary examines the program and looks at both sides of the issue while giving us a glimpse of how this show opened doors for a new generation of black actors in Hollywood.

  • Ah, Kaohi, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by placing me in the "coward" category when in comes to race relations. I merely posted this to see if it would generate any comment and it appears that I've accomplished at least that goal. By referring to yourself as "from the backdoor era," are you saying that you are of the generation represented by George Kirby, the narrator? Are you one of those who habitually used the back door when using public accommodations? What do you mean? As for myself, I am of the generation that came of age in the 60's and made it a POINT to always go in the front door even when to do so required something that is most definitely not cowardice.
But, now, that I have your attention. Let's put aside the vitriol and figure out what's at issue here. Are you a Black person? Did you live on the US mainland during segregation and its immediate aftermath? Don't disrespect the views of those people who did by so quickly considering my posting of this admittedly "controversial" video to be "racist" or in any way condoning racisim. I am a Black man and I did live during that time and fought my share of battles both alone and as part of the movement.
Thank you for your comment, however. It will be used constructively. And now... you might want to visit my other blog site... www.freethinkersplayground.com

  • One must understand Attorney General's Eric Holders' comment which is "The United States is a Nation of cowards when it comes to race realtions?

I believe John H Martin the questions have to be posed by you because if I had the opportunity to dialogue with you I would couch you into the coward category. And yes I did listen twice to video. I'm from the backdoor era and I see the laziness in your posting. I bet your life is about the front door only? Kaohi
