years ago now - i wrote this brief poem of grief lamenting the removal of three stately niu on our property. despite time - i can still see them silhouetted against the sky on a moonlit night in my memory. it reminds me that if we as a people - stand strong - set down firm roots and live our purpose - even time - even our passing cannot erase us from those whose lives we may have touched. here I share ....

ue ue ‘ekolu niu
nuinui niu
only to be seen in memory
silhouetted in the night sky
the moon lighting your leaves....
oh your true value
so foolishly cut down
in your prime your twilight
ue ue ‘ekolu niu
nuinui niu
