SB1 or Senate Bill 1 really is a controversy about what people are comfortable with in their cultural belief system and religious beliefs system. It took some time for me to digest just what are the issues at hand with SB1. I understand that there is apparently a large portion of the majority opposing the passing of this bill. Most of it stems from each individual religious beliefs. Now, that is absolutely fine to have the freedom to demonstrate your religious practices, however with that said, the other side of that argument should have equality to live their lifestyle without being judged.
Hawai`i has a more unique part to play in this political and cultural chess game. Hawai`i as far as a people is in turmoil with this topic because of the Church and State overview has convoluted this very sensitive issue. I suggest that before you come to any conclusion on this issue, you should do some research on all factors involved in making this become a very real aspect of Hawaii’s everyday lifestyle. If you do your due diligence, you will find that homosexuality was a part of ancient Hawai`i. It was accepted on many different levels and it was seen as a productive part of society.
I personally am a practicing catholic and have been raised to frown upon this type of a union. With all of the quotes from the Bible on this subject of marriage, making it clear that in the eyes of God only a man and a women can enter into this union.
I don’t agree with this view. I am not put here on Earth to judge anyone, I may have my opinions. However, I still believe that it should be left up to the individuals involved to decide what is right for their way of life.

· 30 - Countries recognize same sex unions
· 56 - Countries offer protection and have anti-discrimination laws in place
