HONOLULU (AP) - Construction on 12 Kauai homes for Native Hawaiians will begin next month. The nonprofit Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement made the announcement on Wednesday.
A council statement says families have been working with the group and the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to qualify for financing.
They also have participated in pre-construction training workshops on floor plans, cost estimates and government permitting.
The homes will be built in the Piilani Mai Ke Kai subdivision in Anahola and are the first in a series of self-help housing projects to be built on Kauai, Oahu and Molokai over the next 18 months.

From these sources one can catch up to the real issues and that is the covenant with US military--I conclude all those that have and still do participated in Hawaiian Civic Clubs are hoping to walk through the front door of the Akaka Bill like a bunch of sweet .... . (fill in the blank).
There was a time when HHCA of 1920 was independent from the so-called territory of hawaii and the alleged state of hawaii. Today it has been incorporated into the state and codes are applied to it that never was. The 1978 concon was for the revenues of which part or all was to maintain the HHCA of 1920. The revenues allotted by the state has enjoined DHHL with OHA under one umbrella.
All this has created a diverse collection of arguments and viewpoints, interpretations based on perceptions and concepts.
As far as Maoliworld, it is open to all regardless of ethnicity and focuses on maoli issues, culture, heritage, politics, and diverse issues that affect us in Hawai'i. There are subscribers from all over the world of which I know some of them. They love Hawai'i and its people, sympathetic or akin to our causes, and supportive to our efforts in attempting to resolve the issues. Then, there are some that are curious and want to know more about us and how we relate to others.
Certain issues will hit a sore spot on people and they will react on it or vent. With me, I like to stick to the issues at hand.

I welcome your mana'o on Maoliworld. Some on here may feel that Maoliworld belongs to only native Hawaiians. But not me, as I believe Maoliworld is open to all of the people of the world. Keep in mind that there is always two sides of the issue. Mahalo nui for the sharing of your mana'o. Malama pono, o Pomai
As to how you got this information is interesting. I heard today on the radio on several stations about this project.
I too wanted a private 'talk Story' with my own people, but after being on this site I realized that I was being a small pea brain. So now I am rethingking Maoliworld and diversity as Maoliworld.mmmmnot sure if I am able to shift at this time.
What is intersting is the 'White House' interest in Maoliworld. That was an eye opener and today, I heard it on C-span. That was awesome for the future generation. Macon Phillips spoke today about social media and I just had a run in with Civil Beat which in my opinion stole Street Beat. Or maybe not.
Thus cyberspace the wonderful world that I am adjusting to.
The second part about you not doing anything wrong, and I am a person that is 50% plus bloodquantum that grew up on that self-help homestead that one is talking about.
The ugly is that we are right now at an all time high with other Na Kanaka that want what don't belong to them which is typical of my people. They won in 1978 and continue to leach out the very marrow of our bones without any concern for women and children that returned to the soil and did exactly what the program wanted them to do and that was to keep up with the dying race. All of this is true. Why I can attest to this is because I lived it for most of my life.
Generally speaking, people who did not live the life on homestead are now wanting a front door entrance.
They say they are not for the Akaka Bill, even protest the dam bill and yet want in through the front door. Sadly, these veterans of the US military want to gain entrance with all the flag trimmings and expecting those that have been on the wait list for 30 plus years to wait another 30.
Those that served in the US military will have preference on to DHHL lands that was set aside for Native Hawaiians with 50% plus bloodquantum. People do die waiting, people do finally reach the front and only to find out they don't qualify because of their fixed income status.
The major point of your posting is self-help. We need more self-help projects built on native Hawaiian soils. From my experience these are the leasee's that will out live their lease and have successors to their homes. There are many positive things to this project on Kauai--it works for native Hawaiians.
Yes, the 12 families working to build their own homes will multiply ten fold on Native Hawaiian soil beyond ones imagination. It's because this project is self-help.
I myself rebuilt my mom's house which I showed to Pono Kealoha recently. He is a dear friend of mine and have contributed a lot to Maoliworld. He has a blog.
I was able to build my own home for $41,000 split hallow tile 4 bedrooms, two carport garage on a 10,000 square lot. It was only $324 per month and have gotten the equity (smal kine) several times for education and repairs to my home.
What pissed off many was that when I put my key into my door for the first time, I had equity.
Soon after every pilau idiot jumped on board and ruined the program with their own selfish greed. How did I get away with this--it's because we had a wonderful DHHL Director named Georgiana Padeken that saw the light. The directors before her and after just wanted power, paycheck, pension fund and the joy of causing genocide among my people.
This 12 homes will grow into a healthy community. Pono Kealoha and I went to Kauai to do documentary and research for our Na Kupuna Iwi at Naue. And we stopped at several stops where one is talking about. The Center, the Anahola DHHL to visit a Na Kupuna and we stayed with Michale Grace for the night. It was wonderful, and very peaceful when one compares Oahu and Kauai.
I pray that this project runs deep and wide for native Hawaiians with 50% plus bloodquantum and those that do participate in this project will grow economically, have the educational means to protect and preserve our culture values. Self-help brings lots of pride to families that are define as native Hawaiians under the DHHL definition.
I am concern that the military in Hawaii are using their veterans to shred our families, poison our land, and demean our economics tothe brink of forced two opportunities only--join the military or commit suicide.
It is truly sad, and I see self-help as a means to live.
On the otherhand, I am leary about Native Hawaiian Advancement, but do trust Sharon Pomroy and Aunty Nanin Rogers. These are beautiful people that are good leaders and have made many sacrifices beyond ones imagination. Other people just talk stupid.
I on the otherhand have taken on a huge problem and that is the military spreading poison dust through out my community. That is a daily fight. The military is applying for a license to posses and use depleted uranium not far from my home. There are many problems to this issue.
It would help, if one educate oneself on depleted uranium. Another wonderful person on the forum is Amelia Gora. She does research 24-7 like I do.
So thankyou for your posting and no you did nothing wrong and if anything you gave life to 12 families that will be in existing 100 years from now. Thank you for caring enough to participate on Maoliworld and being ahead of the information.
As for the other stuff, no worry. My position with the Akaka Bill is to stop it dead in it's tracks because it will generate the kind of violence it is now seeking from US military veterans of the arm forces. Sadly, what's instore for those of us who are native Hawaiian women--is the burkah head dress. And possibly death in a town square for all to see. I have seen this happen again and again in my community over and over in Waianae-- our men enjoy the violence. mahalo for your good intentions and bless the spirit in which you found yourself on Maoliworld. I don't have time to edit--sorry.
First I am sorry that I posted something that has caused grief.
I thought it good that 12 homes were being built ..with more housing to follow.
For having a home is a blessing. It is a shame that many will never get to
realize that from a long list of waiting. I isn't right, I was uninformed about the history of
all of it.
I do understand your point of view, you have given information that I did not know,
and I had no knowledge of how things were desired of
by Prince Kuhio. I also feel that it was morally and legally, wrong for Queen Liliʻuokalani's Kingdom
was overthrown. It is heartbreaking how she and the monarch were treated, and her Kingdom
stolen from her.
Also I must clarify to all that I am not affilliated with, or work for any entities of
the Dept. of Hawaiian Homelands. I am a haole woman on the Mainland who loves Hawaii.
I no doubt will never understand things completely or feel completely as does a Native Hawaiian.
For my homeland was not taken from me.
I am sorry for my hewa, I do ask forgiveness by you, and Keohi. My intentions were
well meaning. I only makemake maika'i loa for the people of Hawaii.
Also, if anyone feels I should not be on this social network site, since I am not a Native Hawaiian,
I will totally understand, and remove myself.
Ke Akua Ho'opomaika'i Oe
There is no other State in the United States that recognizes its indigenous native people like the State of Hawaii. Native Hawaiians are recognized in the Admission Act of the State of Hawaii. Making native Hawaiians of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act the sole beneficiary of the State of Hawaii.
Native Hawaiian are the Wealthiest Beneficiaries of the United States of America. The Admission Act of the State of Hawaii was passed in 1959.
As long as native Hawaiians continue to accept the "Insulting Programs" that you have posted of building 12 home for native Hawaiians, the dream of Prince Kuhio will never become a reality. More native Hawaiian will continue to Die on the Hawaiian Homes Waiting List then being placed on their Promised Homestead Lands.
There are native Hawaiians who do not want the many problems of the native Hawaiian people to be ended. They want the Many Problems of the native Hawaiians to be perpetuated.
Presently there are about 15,000 native Hawaiians on the DDHL Waiting List for their homesteads. About 40,000 more native Hawaiians who are not that Waiting List.
Building 12 homes for native Hawaiians as you posted is HEWA.
The State of Hawaii has benefited greatly off of the native Hawaiians who continue accepting the Crumbs as the "Wealthest Beneficaries" in the United States.
In today's Hawaii for any native Hawaiian to speak of only the interest and welfare of the Kanaka Maoli people of the Blood Quantum of the Hawaiian Homes Commission is a Traitor.
Prince Kuhio wanted all of his people to be included in the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921. All of his people incuding those of who were not of the Hawaiian Blood. Who married into the Hawaiian people of the blood. As they were the Fathers or Mothers of Hawaiian Children.
Sadly for many reasons, the Territory of Hawaii Legislature did not support the dreams of Prince Kuhio had for the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. At that time, most of the members of the Territory of Hawaii Legislature.
When the Hawaiian Homes Act was passed in 1921 most of the Hawaiian then were well above the Blood Quantum of 50%. So it is my belief that they did not see a problem of the 50% Blood Quantum at that time.
Since the passage of the that Blood Quantum in 1921, it has been used as a Political Weapon against the Kanaka Maoli people, all of our people. From the Purest of the Blood to the 1/32 of the Blood. There are those few native Hawaiians who contine to support the HITLE BLOOD Quantum that was forced upon the Kanaka Maoli by native Hawaiians in the Territory of Hawaii Legislature and the Congress of the United States.
Long Live The Hawaiian Kingdom, o Pomaikaiokalani, Hawaiian Kingdom National Royalist 1993
There are Sick native Hawaiians into the DHHL programs already. "Sick native Hawaiians" who has the HITLER MINDS of the Blood Quantum. Whose only interest is of the native Hawaiians of the Blood Quantum and the Hell with the rest of the Kanaka Maoli.
Any native Hawaiian who believes that building 12 homes for native Hawaiians on the DHHL program is PONO has to be a Traitor to their own people of their Blood Quantum. Traitor who use the hardships of native Hawaiians to make Herself look so PONO.
The Worse Predators is a native Hawaiians who support Crumbs be given to their people.
LuLu Bell needs to get off her Back after 30 plus years and Get Real.
Long Live The Hawaiian Kingdom, o Pomaikaiokalani, Hawaiian Kingdom National Royalist 1993
Give my aloha to Sharon Pomroy, and just stay on track with self-help housing for native Hawaiians with 50% plus bloodquantum and just note that you are doing a good deed. Taking care of Na Kanaka families such as in Haloa will eventually take care of all native Hawaiians. It is so sad that the Akaka Bill will bring 'sick veterans' into DHHL as designed by the Pentagon and it's covenant.
I wish you all well on Kauai, and may this project keep our Na Keiki's safe from predators.
Building Only 12 Kauai homes for native Hawaiians is the main reason why most native Hawaiians DIE on the Waitting List. Wiith this kind of building homes for native Hawaiians, more native Hawaiians will continue to become Homeless................. MAKA ALA..........
Get Off Your Backs and Get Real, o Pomai .......
