I wonder about my sanity sometimes, working in this job. Granted, it's rewarding & I do work with a lot of awesome people. But talk about love... you really gotta love helping people & have at least a little glimmer of love for these kids or you're totally in the wrong place. Majority of the kids (some of which are considered "behavioral" kids.. meaning they're the "problem kids" none of the other teachers want to deal with/can handle) are good kids. I see…

So Tom was one of my best friends at work and outside of work... He was such a great person, Its been 1 month 7 days and 12 hours since he has left us... And its so hard to deal with! He loved life and made sure that we did too.. Even when we were mad at the world. He was giving, caring and so loveable!!! It was hard to resist... He loved his girls tho! There was no doubt about that! He tried to…

Aloha mai e na hoa -
Today is mother's day! It was a beautiful day for our 'ohana. I woke up to the sweet smell of fried rice, my favorite breakfast! Opened beautiful gifts and meaningful cards, especially the homemade kine! We went to church as an 'ohana and heard more about the mother's in our lives and in this world who make a difference. I am so blessed to have been raised by a selfless, loving, nurturing mother who supported me and continues to support me in all that I do. It is her…

Sometimes, you have to take life by the horns...
& Sometimes, you have to play on the bulls team...

I really wonder sometimes why people choose to do the things that they do. Take for instance, today I had to stop by the office to pick up my paycheck. Yeah, I still do the paper thing cause it helps me keep track of everything & I still haven't gotten around to signing up with a different bank. Anyway. While I was driving down a…

Aloha mai ia kakou:
Haunani did a good job in referencing the opposition of the settlement (KWO-Mei2008/pg 29). However, the dynamics of the opposition is not clearly defined when naming the individuals. The list is incomplete and could have filled the page many times. For expedience she listed the more vocal individual objectors and safely eliminated the groups that objected.
Habitually, they (OHA, media, US Congress) have lumped together all objectors regardless of their…

Worse when that attitude comes from yet another Hawaiian. And why Colette Machado is still voted as a trustee I will not understand. I received OHA's Ka Wai Ola paper yesterday. Here's a link to the article I'm referring to that made me so upset.

Ola Na Iwi: The Bones Live
By Hale Mawae
In caring for my ancestors, I know that it is within the bones of our people, na o‘iwi o Ko Hawai‘i Pae ‘Aina, that our ancestors live. Ku‘u ewe, ku‘u piko, ku‘u iwi, ku‘u koko. My umbilical cord, my navel, my bones, my blood. All the elements of our body that constitute us as kanaka maoli. All cherished pieces of ourselves that connect us to that iwi. Ola na iwi. The bones live.
Here within the iwi is the life of our…
