Kakau vs. Tattoo

This is my first blog entry in quite a while. Haven't been moved to write until now.

Yesterday I took my cousin and her boyfriend who are visiting from California to a Tattoo shop. Her boyfriend whom I’ll call Tim wanted to get a “tribal” tattoo done before he left so I tagged along just to make sure the place was kosher and operating within DOH guidelines.

The shop was very nice, clean and legal, which was a good thing. As usual the shop featured a number of samples of… Continue

That 80's thang!

I thought I'd diverge and post song lyrics from one of my 80's favorites, The Motels. I remember taking a group of intermeidiate school kids from Kawananakoa to Kauai for a Spring trip. They got so sick of listening to my Motels tape All For One I thought they'd jump from my station wagon. I bet some of those kids who are adults today still have some residual psychological trauma!

Only the Lonely

We walked the loneliest mile

We smiled without any style

Blogless

I have been like SO blogless it's not even funny!

Had a great weekend. Saturday was spent at the Scottish Highland Games at Kapiolani Park.

Like many kanaka here in Hawaii my genealogy traces back to Scotland on my mom and dad’s side. My mom is originally from Canada and she moved here with her mom after meeting my dad on the beach in Waikiki back in ’57. My mom’s side of the family is from Edinburrough , Scotland. My grandmother kept a family bible with geology records… Continue

Still Sucks!!!

Shot over to Farmers Market at Ward Center today for lunch. My dad had told me last week that Tropics Fish and Vegetable was closing. Sure enuff in big bold letters on a banner was "Mahalo for 56-years" from the Tanoue family.

I guess it was inevitable given the expansion and "modernization" of the mall area but does that make it pono?

Gawd, I can't even begin to count how many times I shopped there. How many dinners, lunches, party's that I cooked using ingreedaments from… Continue

I remember some beauties out Makua way or at the end of the road that side. Or maybe out Mokuleia way. Seems like good places are where the surf is rough during at least part of the year, so the boulders get a good grinding until they are smooth. Maybe we could cruise along the north shore too, checking out the larger and smaller gulches that open onto the north coast, close to the road, so we are not killing ourselves getting the pohaku into Manny's truck. And I will work on my oration to ask politely if they would not like to come from the hot, salty ocean to live up on a cool breezy ridge, under the shade of the trees...

E Mahi'ai, can you find time to help me on a stepping stone expedition? Now that the drainage ditch for the back of the house is pau, we decided not to put back the cement walkway, so the drain can be maintained more easily in the years to come. Therefore, a set of stepping stones is needed. I hear they come when you call, so can we head out to some nice beach at a rivermouth and search a bit? would be a fun thing to do over a few weekends randomly... Let me know what you think
