I just received results by email this morning from Dr. Berg , passing it along to all of the Kaua'i surfers. Mahalo everyone for going out in the rain and the FLAT conditions. You got the samples before the flooding took place as evident in the high salinity at most locations. Special thanks to new sampler Phil, doing PK's on the South Shore for the first time. The Bowl <10 Anini <10 Kalihiwai <10 Rock Quarry 20 Anahola 10 Kealia <10 Lydgate <10 Wailua Beach <10 Kalapaki Bay 121 Kalapaki Stream 4106 Niumalu Beach Park 422 Waiohai <10 PK's <10 Salt Pond <10 Pakalas 63 If I see no evidence of bacteria in the test, the count is below the detection limit of 10. No one sample should be greater than 104, and the mean should be less than 35. Check the Surfrider Kauai website at http://surfriderkauai.ning.com/ for complete details. Kalapaki Stream was backed up by a small sandbar, which had just broken loose. The water in the stream was BAD and it did reach out into the bay. Niumalu County Beach Park was also BAD, probably because of stuff washing down the stream. And then there is Pakalas, BAD again. Carl J. Berg, Ph.D. Surfrider Foundation Kauai
