The Voices For Independence event at Kamakakuokalani on April 24th from 4-9 needs your help!
This is a community event that will include students fand professors rom the University system as well as community practitioners and activists. Here is a list of needs for the event followed by ways to get into contact with organizers.
Set upTake downSecurity (conflict prevention)
Stage manager - keep the schedule and the flow of performers running
3 food committees:
Ho'omakaukau - prep the food (provided by MANA, and get it to the event. No cooking allowed at school thats why)
Malama mea 'ai - serve up the food and check on the drink coolers every once in awhile
Holoi pa - take down and dishes crew. Maintain as needed or all at the end.
Workshop assistants, 8 needed - Help those running the workshops set up, if need, keep time and take down, if need.
Media and promotion - we have a crew on this already but your kokua would only add to the process. Flyering and getting into the community colleges and some of the highschools to talk about this event and encourage participation. Will also be contacting medias.
Lei Committee - need people to make simple ti leaf lei (or get nuts if you like) for workshop leaders and performers.
We are also looking for visual artists that want to create some visual art as resistance workshops.
If you have ideas as to other things that may be needed and would like to organize those things, let us know. Also, we are orgnanizing this so that no one is stuck on one thing the whole time. We want there to be a lot of freedom and movement at this event for everyone to be able to particpate in all the ways that they would like.
