Position clarified amid smear campaign

Since my snatching of the upside-down flag from the County Council Chambers, many people have shared their opinions of my action with me. Everyone has been civil about expressing their opinions, except one person. He calls himself "MauiMatt" and has embarked on a one-man campaign to discredit me. His diatribes are full of falsehoods and a complete mischaracterization of my position with respect to Native Hawaiian land rights. He has even gone so far as to print and distribute fliers with my picture on them suggesting that harm should befall me. I would like to set the record straight: Native Hawaiians have been getting the shaft for far too long.
It is way past time for Native Hawaiians to reap the benefits of being part of the United States. The County Council's level of government is probably the most important branch of government in our system because it is at this level that our lives are directly affected the most. While our County Council spends its time banning beer at beaches and closing down small businesses, kanaka maoli are losing their lands.
"MauiMatt's" attempt to paint me with a anti-Native Hawaiian brush should fall on deaf ears. The Republic of Hawaii is not under duress, Native Hawaiians are. The flag that should be displayed upside down is that of the kanaka maoli. My heart grieves for the plight of Native Hawaiians.

"Money talks and knowing who are legal heirs will not help if there is no execution of their rights."
Kauai is going to be really pissed for me sharing this. But a lawyer gave $5,000 to their cause as a gift, because their is no lawyer that would take their case. Can we go outside and get a lawyer, just with what the Scarry Ferry haole did? I don't know about these things. Don't mean to add to the pile of stuff. Which is why I switched to 'action' assertion but with responsibility as oppose to informational meeting. What or should do? Sorta
"Jacobus raised eyebrows at a recent County Council meeting when, following his testimony on the issue, he snatched a Hawai‘i state flag from the desk of Councilmember Wayne Nishiki. Jacobus said he felt that Nishiki’s upside down display of the flag, which Nishiki claimed was a reminder of the suffering of Native Hawaiians, was “disrespectful.” from the article August 27, 2009 Gee, the saga goes on and on.

Why are we building a correctional facility? within the same tongue (article) Thanks Ululani Kaohi
"The controversy began when police began getting complaints about loud music, yelling, drunkenness and rude behavior at Charley Young Beach, which is under the jurisdiction of Maui County."

Jake Jacobus is supposedly a founder of Friends of Charley Young Beach. He allegedly ripped the flag away which is hypocritically disrespectful. Jacobus should not have grabbed the flag. Of course this is all a distraction. It would not surprise me if he was planted in order to distract.
I am in the middle of working on my response to your other post though... I work with land (not in Hawai'i) and I serve on several boards. We always hire a solid legal team consisting of *good* people. Money talks and knowing who are legal heirs will not help if there is no execution of their rights. They've created software to mine for certain data as well.
Stephanie already mentioned a few things but we oiwi -- as in of the iwi for the iwi -- need to create a solid legal defense fund at what $5 or $10 a donation to get perhaps $40,000 or so and build a solid legal team of solidly *good* people.

I don't know who MauiMatt is or what exactly he said, however, I do know what "Jake Jacobus" said.
We are of the 'dead past' and our relationship to the land and ocean does not exist. For myself as a Kanaka, if I want to remain alive I must adhere to a part of the United States. The whole and equal part that Jake Jacobus is talking about meshes within culture interpretation of Americana.

MauiMatt according to Jacob imaginative mind set alluding to Matt as wearing a war paint and behaving as an outsider and representing Native Hawaiian in the burning fire brush and that we should not hear his pain, and cries to the gods.

The black box of the Republic of Hawaii are happy settlers and we are under the thumb of the US should we choose to think outside of the box. The flag that should be correctly flown is the Mamalahoe with leaves or paddles standing straight up in authority.
Men and their "shafts"!! Good grief! Cone head is more like it! Need I say more!!!!Kaohi

LOL Sorry Kaohi but I have to laugh because in my experience (no offense to some males who are *cool*) but when some males are involved... so are their egos.

"Yeah, that's what MPD needs, more bone heads clogging their phone lines with bone headed complaints. Thanks for proving me right, I warned them about people like you ! "

It's statements like these that do not help:
"The controversy began when police began getting complaints about loud music, yelling, drunkenness and rude behavior at Charley Young Beach, which is under the jurisdiction of Maui County."
