I had a pastor of a church in Nanakuli-Waianae area who had noticed that his congregation that had no family history of cancer and leukemia began to suffer and die from these illnesses including children. To him, it was almost pandemic for his parishioners. He suspected DU and did some research on it. This was like 15-20 years ago. The government and military just scoffed and ignored him. BP begins capturing oil as Obama makes third trip to Gulf Coast

BP began capturing some of the oil and gas gushing from a damaged Gulf of Mexico well Friday after placing a containment cap on the wellhead deep below the surface, as President Obama made his third trip to the area amid reports of spreading environmental damage
Obama blasted BP during his visit for its handling of some claims, saying he did not want to see the British oil giant "nickel and diming" people and businesses harmed by the oil spill.
The containment device was successfully funneling oil and gas to a drill ship stationed above the source of the massive spill, BP officials and the U.S. Coast Guard commander on the scene said. But they cautioned that it remains unclear how much of the leaking crude is being captured and said some seepage would continue even in a best-case scenario.
Adm. Thad W. Allen, who is in charge of the federal response to the disaster, told reporters he received an "anecdotal" report Friday morning that oil was being brought up through the containment cap at the rate of 1,000 barrels a day, which he described as a "very, very rough estimate." U.S. experts have calculated that the damaged well is spewing at least 12,000 barrels of oil a day and could be gushing as much as 25,000 barrels a day.
"Generally, progress is being made," Allen said. He said BP engineers would gradually shut off vents in the containment cap that are allowing oil to escape. This and other measures are intended to ensure that water does not get in and create hydrates -- crystals formed from a mixture of gas and water under high pressure at low temperatures. Hydrates derailed an earlier attempt to put a containment cap on the wellhead.
On his latest trip to Louisiana since the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded and sank about 50 miles off the state's coast six weeks ago, Obama met with Allen and state and local elected officials before a visit to Gulf Coast communities affected by the oil spills.
"It does appear that the cap at least for now is holding," Obama said. But he cautioned, "It is way to early to be optimistic."
He also invited family members of those killed on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig to the White House on Thursday, so he can personally offer his condolences. Each family has been individually invited by the White House, press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday.
In talking with reporters, Obama showed a flash of anger when he discussed claims against BP, which he called "an area where I think everyone has a lot of concern."
Citing reports that BP plans to pay $10.5 billion in dividends to shareholders this quarter and has contracted $50 million worth of television advertising to improve its tarnished image, Obama said: "They've got moral and legal obligations here in the gulf for the damage that has been done." He said he did not want to hear that the company is "nickel and diming fishermen or small businesses here in the gulf who are having a hard time."
Obama added: "They need to make sure that they are following through on these claims in an expeditious and fair way. . . . Given the fact that they didn't fully account for the risk, I don't want somebody else bearing the costs of the risk that they took. I want to make sure that they're paying for it." He said claimants are "experiencing problems" and that he wants to "nip that in the bud right now."
In response to a reporter's question, Obama said local officials had expressed concern about the economic impact of a moratorium he declared on deep-water drilling. He said he was still relying on the findings of an independent commission he created to determine how drilling could resume safely. But he said he has told the commission chairmen that they need not wait for six months -- when their assessment is due -- to report findings that could have an impact on economically vital oil industry operations.
Obama is making his second visit to Grand Isle, a tourist town now nearly deserted except for cleanup workers and journalists. On Thursday, several locals said the last presidential visit had been an annoyance, slowing everything down on the island's one main road.
On Thursday night, at a community meeting at the First Baptist Church, it was announced that "the president's supposed to be here tomorrow."
"A-gain?" a woman yelled out from the crowd, clearly annoyed.
Speaking to reporters Friday, Allen described the disaster as a "disaggregation" of the gushing oil into "a number of smaller spills," which he said are now being pushed by winds toward the Mississippi, Alabama and Florida coasts.
"We now have a battle line, if you will, that stretches from Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, over to around the beaches by Pensacola, Florida," Allen said. "This is an extraordinarily wide area of beaches." He indicated that there is not much that can be done about oil that has already penetrated Louisiana's renowned marshlands, coating birds and other aquatic life with thick sludge.
"The real issue is to stop this thing at the source, do maximum skimming, in-situ burning, deal with it as far offshore as possible, and doing everything you can to keep it from getting ashore, because once it's into the marshes, quite frankly, I think we would all agree there's no good solution at that point," Allen said.
BP said in a statement that it would take at least a day for the flow of oil and gas to the ship Discoverer Enterprise to stabilize, "and it is not possible at this stage to estimate how much oil and gas will be captured by this containment system." The gas is being flared off, while the oil is being "produced" at the ship as it would be from a regular well.
"All of these operations are complex, involve risks and uncertainties, and have to be carried out by remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) at 5,000 feet under water," the BP statement continued. The systems being used have "never before . . . been deployed at these depths and conditions. The containment system's efficiency, continued operation, and ability to contain the oil and gas cannot be assured."
Earlier Friday, BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles said some continued leakage into the gulf is part of the design of the cap that was installed -- apparently successfully -- on Thursday, a desperate and iffy attempt to capture the leaking oil and funnel it to a ship on the surface. Engineers want to keep water from mixing with gas and forming methane hydrates that can clog the operation, Suttles said on ABC's "Good Morning America," and the leakage is part of that. "We'll probably have to have some small amount leaking around the bottom to make sure we don't draw this water in."
Suttles said the oil that could be seen surging into the gulf from around the new cap was coming from vents that were to be successively closed throughout Friday.
"I'm actually pretty confident this is going to work," Suttles said. "It probably won't capture all the flow, but it should capture the vast majority."

Army Seeks Native Hawaiian Input On Discovery Of Human Remains

Army officials to\on Thursday said they invited representatives from the State Historic Preservation Division, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Oahu Burial Council, Ahu Kukaniloko and Hui Malama I Na Kupuna O Hawaii Nei to visit a Schofield Barracks construction site where human remains were discovered earlier this month.
"Now that the remains have been found, the decision must be made whether the remains should stay where they were found, or whether they should be relocated to a more appropriate site where they would not be disturbed again," said Laurie Lucking, cultural resource manager for U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, in a statement. "The remains were found in an Army training area where military vehicles will be operating and performing exercises and we are seeking recommendations from the representatives on this matter."
The Army said it will publish a general notice to allow claimants an opportunity to consult with the Army on the final disposition of the remains once a decision is made on whether to move the remains from its location.
An Army-contracted cultural monitor from Garcia and Associates was on site when a single bone fragment was found on May 14 in a mound of earth that had recently been excavated. All work was immediately halted.
The cultural monitors and an archaeologist determined that there was a possibility that the fragments were human and a forensic anthropologist with the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command confirmed that suspicion the following day.
The Army said further examination of the surrounding area is being done to determine if there are any more human remains.
The Army said it will continue to work closely with the Native Hawaiian community to ensure compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act."

The military always ignore the input and does what it wants. So much for their covenant to native Hawaiians. Since when does a U.S. habitual liar becomes credible? The bottomline is the military were advised that there were burials there; thus there is no such thing as inadvertant burials.
