To those out there in Maoli world, please get a copy of, The Great Mahele, by Jon J. Chinen.
He explains it well and tells you where these lands are and in the back of the book it explains howKamehameha III, divided out from His Royal Dominion and who got what. In a nutshell the Crown and Government Lands, make up all of Hawai'i.
The Good NEWS! There were laws passed on the Great Mahele from the Hawai'i Legislature in 1848 and you can look up those laws in the Archives. The other good news is, there is no King or Konohiki just us, the native tenants. Do you know what that means? It means we can unite, come out with our own community development plans in our communities, with participation of community people who are Hawaiian by blood and those who can trace their genealogy back to their 'ohana who were nationalized in the Kingdom.
I have my own opinions and ways to acquire back those lands if you want to learn, come to our next on going meeting to be held in Waimanalo, which will be announced on Monday, where, when and how we are moving forward. This meeting is for those who are going to organize in their own communities, not for individual use, for there is power in numbers in this process. We don't only support one person's need. It has to be a need that a group of people will be willing to divide the tasks and to support the implementation processes.

It looks like you are reposting Kawehi's responses? At Kamehameha Schools it was required reading for Hawaiian history classes but they did not teach the importance of royal patents and how it relates to title. I always post in the local newspaper comment sections something like
"Hawaiians and their legal heirs never consented or signed to transfer their royal patents and title to anyone or to any entity. They reserve their property rights now and forever."
Chinen's book is significant. By writing about it and naming his book "The Great Mahele" it helps keep the Mahele alive/visible.
Google has digitized part of it here. I don't like Van Dyke's book at all but some good comes out of it. We know who is trying to steal what does not belong to them so it is good that we know who our enemies are. Van Dyke put it all in writing for the world to see LOL Even with real property. Even with Queen Lili'uokalani. She put it in writing which is one of the best things about the Haole World... and it is helping our generation.
I have seen Kawehi around. Don't know what the drama is about though to me I no kea if people disagree with how to preserve property rights. Every tangent is important. No one "better" than the other. Looking forward instead of worrying about what others are doing and/or wanting the recognition. Do what *you* gotta do is what I say. As long as it is accurate because the watchers of the land are always watching. They may not be visible to other people's eye(s)... but they see everything.
