Last week the newly elected governor, Niel Abercrombie, came to Kaua'i for his inaugural confirmation, as he did on Maui, the Big Island, and Molokai. In each case the local periodicals on the other islands provided ample notice of the event, reported on his vision of Hawaii during the coming years and provided pictures of the governor with local dignitaries.
Had I not read of his visit in the Honolulu Star Avertiser, I would have missed it completely, many locals on Kaua'i did in fact miss the opportunity to attend the ceremony, and only learned of his visit after the fact. I check with his office to make sure that a press release was sent to the Garden Island Newspaper, they assured me it was sent to all of the news papers in the state.
In governor Niel Abercrombies press release of his inaugual confirmation schedule, he annouced that the Kaua'i confirmation was to be held on Hikinaakala Heiau, in Wailuanuiahoano, a Pu'u honua
Wailuanuiahoano has been a very politically controversial "hot spot" on Kaua'i due to damages of nationally registerd historical cultural sites like Mahunapu'uone Burial and it's complex of Heiau. Damages brought about by segmented projects that cumulatively should have requierd an EIS . Projects by the county, state and federal government.
Since the theme was " E ho'omalu O Hawaii" To protect Hawaii, I have to ask, is the Garden Island Newspaper trying to protect the the people of Kaua'i from the governor, or are they are they protecting the governor from the people of Kaua'i? Is this why he pick a Pu'uhonua for his confirmation ?
Garden Island News Paper, What ever happened to responsible political reporting?

"which was moved from Hikinaakala Heiau to Lydgate park" -- Noelani
By my calculations that's a matter of about 200 yards. Which means that it wasn't "moved" at all. We had absolutely no influence at all to stop
them from going into 'Iolani Palace and absolutely no influence at all
to stop them from going into Hikinaakala Heiau, in Wailuanuiahoano, a Pu'u honua !!
Seems like we had better start sorting through our friends and enemies lists again !! We had better get to work !
It appears that Lingle and Abercrombie have iced water running in their veins when it comes to anything "Hawaiian". Moreover, they are not afraid to show it ..... with pride and no hesitation.

The One and Only language the GIN understands is PICKETS and a VIGIL in front of their building !!
In the spirit of Jim Albertini one person only can make a demo if really necessary.
Greetings Kukuna okala,, nice to know the person behind the name. Thank you for the links, very interesting reading! We are definately being blacked out!
Yes we need to picket and hold a vigil I heard through the "coconut wireless" that a night torch march was planned???Do you know any thing of this? If so please keep us posted!
Thank you for supporting and contributing to this issue!
Noelani,
This Kukuna person is questionable, he/she has too much darkness! Check with Kehau and stay in the light. What is Aunty Nani saying? Nancy Caraway is an awesome person, you should check her out. She has no hold back as far as calling the military on their grounds of waste and unecessary. It will be an interesting four years.
Why did you mention Jim Albertini?
Aloha,
Had to delete the last posting, sorry--I was being advisiable instead of sharing don't like to do the top down stuff with you.
What I wanted to say was 2009 Makahiki was a preparation for a difficult 2010, and it's a new year and don't really want to spend another years in the extremity action that I didn't create. Tired of reacting.
Wailua is a special place with lots of witnesses and that thunder lives within us and those that participated in the ceremomies. We know who our ancestors are and thanks to Kehau and all the other Na Kumu such as Uncle Nathan and Puanani Rogers. We got to experience such a soulful beauty of natural causes.
A while back which everyone forgot, the six o'clock news snubbed just before Neil began to talk at Kahana. For what full reasons why he was there, I don't know. But, now that he is governor--my thoughts returns back to that moments. May you see it necessary to connect the two places, I believe there is precedent setting in the before and after. love you
Follow up!
Kumu Kehau did a GREAT intervention! she phoned those organizing the governors confirmation and some how got on the program! it was then move 200 yards away, but at least it was NOT on top of Hikinaakala . (to where we did E ala e)
Beautiful Kanaka Wahine, Kumu Kehau appropriately opened the ceremoney with an oli, calling all of the Kupunas past and present to the event!, unfourtunately it was not covered in Mr. Wiley's telephone report.
I believe that what ever happends, our Kupunas past and present will direct the events, we are just their instruments.
