Regarding the U.S. National Historic Area issue:

There are points of contention that they overlook when they want to establish a U.S. National Historic Area on O'ahu: It is still the existing Kingdom of Hawai'i. The Newlands Resolution is unlawful therefore the U.S. doesn't have clear title to the territory. This ruse will get important Hawaiian Kingdom lands away from Hawai'i being under the U.S. Secretary of Interior. For the purposes of negotiating for lands, resources with the use of the Akaka Bill, this will be used for the Akaka's governing entity to negotiate to get back into Hawaii's control but will have to give up something for it. The Feds will have the advantage and leverage over the Hawaiian governing entity. Because it's Federal, any infraction will be more severe than the alleged State of Hawai'i. The restrictions will be dictated by the Federal government and the State loses it's autonomy over those lands. Like most states in the Union; they will limit Federal lands ownership and jurisdiction. In Hawai'i's case, they would rather give up land of Hawaiians than deal with the Hawaiians. When the Akaka Bill was first introduced to the Hawaiians, They were outraged that they should be referred to as a tribe instead of Hawaii nationals. The senators assured us that this was not so and that we weren't being referred to as a tribe as the native Americans because this was a different kind of bill albeit under the Native American Indian policy. Reading the Bill, there is wording in it referring Hawaiians as a tribe and their tribal government. The next generation coming up will look at that and say they are a tribe of Hawaiians and not Hawai'i nationals; they will accept the definition of themselves. So, what are we waiting for? Assert ourselves as Hawai'i nationals, kanaka maoli and non-kanaka maoli as citizens of the still existing Kingdom of Hawai'i and invalidate the perfunctory, unlawful Newland's Resolution. Tane
