Despite the rhetoric of "new management" on Mauna Kea, we see from their actions that the Moore Foundation and the University of Hawaii are offering nothing new. They are pushing this telescope forward, despite the lack of any plan to address decommissioning old telescopes, ensuring public access, and protecting natural and cultural resources, which were specifically required by the state Land Board before any telescope can built.
Question: How can the TMT advocates claim to be following this "comprehensive management plan" when the most important parts of it haven't even been written yet?
Answer: They don't care about decommissioning or public access or protecting our public trust resources. They are willing to destroy a unique environment and desecrate indigenous religious sites so that they can have one more "window" to look at the stars. Their actions prove they consider their science to be more important than protecting our environment and perpetuating our culture.
Please attend the hearing and help them understand why they should care. If you can't attend the hearing, then submit your comments in opposition to the TMT by clicking here: Defend the Sacred Summit of Mauna Kea from the World's Largest Telescope
