The hypocrisy of blood quantum... simply... blood quantum was NOT a form of identification during the Kingdom, as it is under this occupation. The identification and separation based on blood quantum is nothing but a tool of the occupier/colonizer to further divide a people. Look at us now. We fight, we bicker, we form barriers that prevent us from uniting because we just can't get over blood quantum.
Not all of our monarchs were 100% Kānaka Maoli. I have much aloha for these monarchs, so much so, that you can be sure that no one today, has those same qualifications necessary to rule as mōʻī. Times have changed and a King or Queen will not suffice in the government of a future Hawai'i. How many of you know what it took to become mōʻī? It was not simply your blood, your lineage -- having ali'i ancestors DOES NOT entitle you to become an ali'i -- you want to argue with this? You'd better check your history again -- and you tell me where it says you have the right to rule simply because your kupuna did. These royal lineages were kept pure, protected (nī'aupi'o, pi'o, naha, wohi) -- and at the end of the day, it was your ability to hānai your people, honor the akua, and maintain your tradtions/ceremonies that made you an ali'i.
Most Kānaka Maoli can trace their lineage back to an Ali'i. Honor your kūpuna, love them for who they were and what they did -- and do your very best to live up to that kuleana. I'm tired of these baseless claims for the right to rule. There are too many out there who want to be a KIng or a Queen and do absolutely nothing but sit on your ass and grumble about it. Great Ali'i fought on the front lines. They fought for their people, not for themselves. It was the people who honored them as leaders.
We all bleed the same color. We all have a right to live and live well. Now is the time to decide what you fight for. Do you squabble for the scraps that do nothing but advance your own personal wants and desires while perpetuating our demise? Or do you fight for EA, for independence, in the perpetuity of life no matter what color, no matter what blood? Either way, I'll see you on the battlefield.
