About a dozen Native Hawaiians protested the use of the Iolani Palace grounds for the inauguration of Neil Abercrombie as Hawaii's seventh elected governor.</p><p>The demonstrators remained on the periphery of Monday's ceremony. They held signs reading "Free Hawaii" and "Restore Hawaii Independence."</p><p>One protester called the event a "slap in the face," and added that the use of the Capitol rotunda for Gov. Linda Lingle's first inauguration in 2002 was more appropriate.</p><p>Other governors have held their inauguration at the palace, including Gov. Ben Cayetano and Gov. John Waihee.</p><p>Iolani Palace served as the official residence of Hawaii's monarchy. It was built by King Kalakaua in 1882

  • Actually, there were about thirty people in the group making people aware of our discontent.

What even made it more wonderful is that there were representatives from various groups there to ku'e as well as independent individuals. Many wanted to attend but were unable to because they had to work or attend school classes; but they were there in spirit.

I caught the bus to get there and back home. I carried my sign on board and had a few looks of curiosity. I was hoping I would've been approached to discuss our issues; but no takers. LOL... Later when I got home, I slept through the night. Auwe no ho'i e! I still need to gain my stamina back to what it used to be.

I was glad that I was able to be there; also saw a lot of people I knew that attended the ceremony. Repositioning to the main gate was a stroke of genius; everyone couldn't miss the signs as they were a captured audience waiting to get onto the grounds. Many took pictures of the group and their signs; a few stopped by to kukakuka. To know us is to love us, eh? LOL

I'm proud to be a subject of the Kingdom of Hawai'i and feel pono about it! I enjoy that feeling and revel in it. Kau Makahiki is a special time of the year for us to celebrate. Our next National Holiday of Thanksgiving is coming up on 25th of December as proclaimed by Kamehameha IV; it coincides with the Christian Christmas. We can celebrate both occasions. Hulo!

When I caught the Bus home a man by me thank me for being there. He said that he saw on getting ready for the KUE in the morning time. I too always get the Looks of Curiosity when I get on the Bus. Especailly when I got my Hawaiian National Cap.
Ae, December 25 is a Hawaiian Kingdom National Holiday that we should celebrate as Hawaiian Nationals.

  • ALOHA Kakou, e Hawaii,
Hawaii is a very Wealthy State in many ways. As Governor and with his Political Party in control of the State Legislature, Governor Abercrombie should have no problems solving many of the problems that face Hawaii. Governor Abercrombie is surrounded with the ALOHA of his Hanai Ohana and their people.
Governor Abercrombie should not have requested that Iolani Palace be used for his Inauguration Ceremony. Being one of the Hawaiian Nationals who at the Kue today at Iolani Palace, it was a sad moment for me to watch Governor Abercrombie and the past Governors and party walk out of the front doors of Iolani Palace and walk down the steps of Iolani Palace and escorted to the Coranation Stand of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani.
