Firefighters were busy responding to a persistent brush fire that flared up several times Friday in Makaha.

Fire investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set, fire Capt. Robert Main said. It started about 11:10 a.m. Thursday and burned close to the Makaha Valley Country Club.

Firefighters contained the blaze Friday, but responded several times to reports of smoke or flames. The burned out areas contain logs, stumps, underground organic material, and kiawe trees that make good fuel for rekindling, Main said.
