a nation within a nation: one kupuna talked to me about getting my ohana together and forming a nation within a nation. he explained how we of ali'i bloodline with our mo'okuauhau lineage, begin to gather information of our ohana and then all ohanas with the lineage then, gather with the other ohanas of ali'i bloodline and form a council to gather all these individual ohanas together to have a say in what is happening on our kingdom islands. this kupuna said that this action or council will begin the justice with in our generation of gathering among our people, the Kanaka Maoli's and we all would have the lineage to prove our background and the best in mind of our future generations to come of kanaka maoli's. i thought this was an interesting concept that the generations before us have not done yet, and most of them die in silence. i'm sharing a mana'o from a kupuna of this kingdom island of maui nui...~da princess~

maui nui kupuna council
this is of great need from the beginning
what seems simple has become so difficult
today are different times of gathering
hard to apply compasion or forgiving
its time for all ohanas to understand
the severity and urgency
to step forward with the proper wisdom,
honor, strength, and compasion
its time for all to come together
to be as one, take the lead and directed
with good intentions, as Leaders. ~da princess~
In my opinion this kind of council you speak of has to fall within the current Kingdom Laws - you can't practice a government without following the laws. What you speak of is just one council - there are other councils that can be birth then all councils come together. For instance Uncle Tane has mentioned royal societies, that would be a council, what about other sovereignty groups from different islands that would be another council, etc....we are a melting pot of po'e much can be done for the common good of ALL concerned
