"...lucky we/you live Hawaii because..."

Aloha kakou: With all the gloom and doom of the economy, politics, wars, health, Hawaiian issues etc...it is no wonder that we sometimes fail to notice just how blessed we all are to live in this paradise. I am currently putting together a book that will have reflections of what all of you feel about "lucky we/you live Hawaii because..." I am hoping that you will take some time to finish this sentence with a short blurb on how you feel blessed. For those of you who do NOT reside in these islands...you are still invited to participate as you can finish the sentence on how "lucky YOU live Hawaii because." These submittals will be combined with children's art that focuses in on the same thought. You may leave your submittals at this site...or go to www.celebrationofthearts.org. You can scroll down to the "lucky we live Hawaii" link and click on it to get started. Please note that all submittals may be selected and published in this book! I will assume that by your participation, you are giving me publishing rights. Know this please...this book is NOT about making money. It is more about having something to remind us (and others) that we live in the most beautiful place in the world and that we are surrounded by treasures. At times we need to hear how others cherish this land and culture so we can rejuvenate our spirit and hope! Thank you for your time and consideration of what I feel is a worthy project. "Lucky we live Hawaii because...'ohana and friends in these islands have shaped me...and continue to shape the legacy of my family. Be well...be happy...be safe.

  • Lucky you live Hawaii-- and you didn't have to leave the island to realize who you are, or what you left behind. Sometimes, that's what it takes.

Lucky you live Hawaii, because although the culture is being sold out for 'Uncle Sam's buck,' you have the ability to be a part of something greater then yourself. Do it.

Lucky you live Hawaii, because if wasn't for you, the corrupt 'Hawaiian' politicians would have nobody to point to when they beg for money.

Lucky you live Hawaii, if it wasn't for you, our History would be entirely corrupted or even erased.

But most of all, lucky you live Hawaii because if I could be anyplace right now, I would be home.

If I could make any point to any young impressionable mind, it would be those in the first 'anecdote,' and the one in the Kamakawiwoole poem I quoted. The snippet is pretty much my theme song at this point...
    • aloha e pauahi:

Many challenges are coming hard to me. Heart attack about 4 months ago. Diagonosed with heart disease. Brain tumor just diagnosed as well a month ago. Leaving for Oahu to do gamma knife radiation surgery on the tumor May 7th. All should be well. Lost my hearing from right side completely though and docs do not think I will regain it. Lucky Akua gave me one extra one on inventory on the left side! Once I get this brain thing completed, I can concentrate on the puuwai.

Akeakamai is still at home. Trying to find a job but it is difficult in these economic times. And you know him...picky, picky, picky. He likes to start from the TOP. Ha! Welcome to the kindegarten of life!

Anyways, I will tell him you send your aloha and good luck. At least I know he is not into drugs. He may have a beer or two with his buddies but drugs is taboo for him. Hopefully this will keep on.

Be well. I am looking forward to the future.

Indeed we are blessed to live here in the islands of Hawai'i. There ain't no place like our home. We focus on what is actually our main way of living and that is by our FAMILY. We cultivate the many unique practices of long ago such as the way of living, hula, language, ect... " O ta pae 'aina 'o Hawai'i no ta helu 'ekahi! " E ola mau katou. Best wishes to you on your book.
