Aloha,

My dad past just a few seconds ago.  He is our last living pure Hawaiian 'Niaupio' in our family that used every ounce of his energy to past at 1845 Maunawili Road with dignity!  My dad will surely be missed by many of his family members and this loss will cut very deep into our very spirit and our everyday real lives.  I know that my dad was their last link to the ancients and each time we loose one of these spirits, the weight of preserving our culture links to our land takes an even bigger toll on the younger children.

May you all have a wonderful day, with aloha

  • Loosing a father is difficult for a daughter. I losr my beloved Dad 3 years ago and i still long for him. He was the most important man in my life who made the greatest impression on who I am today. We never get over the loss but learn to live with it and honor his memory by what we do in our own. It provides us with solace when we carry on his legacy.

Aloha nui ia oe as you move through the following days celebrating the life of your makuakane. The feelings will overwhelm as you walk dazed like thru these moments. God bless you on your journey.
    • Mahalo for your kind words.  It was because of Pono Kealoha and his kind heart that I was able to deepened my attention to my dad.  I am his beloved daughter in the 'niaupio' sense.  I have not been able to walk the 'dazed moments' yet and I know it will come.  For I am concern with the surrounding people around my dad's legacy that has not been fully realized--especially the young.

Most geneologist, scientist and politicians that 'steal lands' their trail goes bad.  It is because of the 'niaupio' that causes their contracts to go bad.  Other niaupio and their affiliates have tried to bargin their way through a process, but without the practice.  The practice is to serve ones people, but often it comes with a price and or loss to oneself!   My father steadied the course to his last words.  Forgive me, but I an trying to protect my ohana from taking up the torch, but should they try to do so--I will be there for them.

When we handed my Uncle Randy Kaleihiki the lighted torches after we encircled Iolani Palace in 1992 or 93 (don't remember when), I watched him put out each torch.  Forgive me, I want to do that with my ohana as to why I don't know and yet I want that torch to be taken up by someone..that is the mental state that I am in right now.  As my father says, "no relations"...meaning that the person with the DNA only.

      Mahalo again!

  • Just like the old ways, our dad is still sleeping in his room and people are stopping by to say their goodby's, I am so blessed to have a father and to have one at my age.  Sleep my beloved dad.

      • Mahalo,

Am glad you and others got to meet my dad at 1845 Maunawili Road and took a walk through Steven Helela's side of the property too which is adjacent.

  • I will try to do my best to serve all of you as with what my father has always done for his father and mother.  Aloha
