Edward Niaupio (my grandfathers brother) was the only remaining Kalo grower in Waimanalo, during his time. He also respected the natural spring water ways that flowed through out Waimanalo and Maunawili. He was cited in Sites of Oahu author McAllister as well as E.S Handy. My grandfather and father would saddle their white horse one of the special breed that was brought to Hawaii and travel to Waimanalo to help Tutu Puku with Kalo planting.
Famine was very much the aftermath of Kamehameha's conquering of Oahu. He was able to conquer Oahu, Koolaupoko very easily with the use of guns from white men. Today that white family still thrives on viral, as well as, in ill documentations of claim to fame. That character of murderous intent neurologically continuous into wee hours until death. Wretched jealousy of having nothing of substance to touch to ones claim can drive a person into deep evil. Concocting schemes to lay claim to fame and fortune is deathly sick.
We serve our people each day feeding, giving emotional support and encouragement to live on their ancestors aina through all the perils brought upon them through capitalist greed and deep seated practices of past murders and bringing forward into these contemporary times.
Haloa thrives in us because we are the origin of inbreeding as well as the continuous traditional practices in our families on our ancestor aina. We are still on our ancestors lands that was conquered by the evil hearts of Kamehameha I and his white friends. Taking over by killing and pillaging our ancestor's and their lands doesn't mean they own the aina. It just means that they are murders. Unfortunately these murders have no hesitations to continue their legacy at all turns of life's corners. It's just the way humans (kamapua'a) behave and they wonder why they have shit between their toes for every step that they take in life.
