Pauline Kaihana is struggling day by day to take care of her husband.  The May 10th 2012 eviction from her home of 35 years on Hawaiian Homestead in Waianae Valley was devastating.  Thierty-five years ago Billie Beamer was the Director of Department of Hawaiian Home Land.  Mrs. Billie Beamer the understood the essence of rehabilitation for native Hawaiians and it's future plight.  Although she and I had disagreements in 1975,  I assure you that her understanding of her people was limiting and unfortunately would result in devastation for some.  About 20% from my roadside observation will assimilate, however, overtime and in the coming generations they too will fall to the same situation as the Kaihana family.

It is much more enjoyable to be violent towards the elderly, and DHHL employees have found delight in their evictions of the Kaihana family.  I am amazed at the many arguments that I have had within this year with DHHL and several organizations on Hawaiian Homestead.  Their liking of evictions of Hawaiian Homesteaders is appalling.  What is lacking in this process is research into the details and legal representation.

Each day, I have encouraged Pauline Kaihana to write in a journal of her experience living on DHHL for 35 years, and too,  to write about her experiences during as well as the aftermath of her eviction.  As I explained being the fact that she is 71 and have been living under tremendous stress in trying to care for her paralyzed husband of 79 on the streets--her grandchildren will want to know what happened.  It is therapy for this shocking ordeal and from listening to her family members DHHL and the Hawaii State Sheriffs were brutal thugs!

  • I watched the youtube video of your interview and I was appalled and horrified at the degrading treatment this Kanaka Maoli family endured at the hands of DHHL. What is worst, is that kanaka did this to other kanaka. I can't wrap my brain around kanaka men treating the sick kupunakane and his 'ohana in a manner totally devoid of dignity and humanity. It was sickening to listen to this young man describe the humiliation he and his family endured at the hands of these bastards. There is something inherently dysfunctional about DHHL for this to happen to the people they exsist to serve.
