This afternoon, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson is scheduled to unveil the landmark Mercury and Air Toxics rule, a truly historic achievement you helped make possible with your activism and support.

It is difficult to overstate the importance and scope of this rule for our kids and communities.
Just as previous generations fought to take lead out of gasoline, reduce the threat of acid rain, and phase out the use of ozone-depleting CFCs, so too will future generations celebrate the unprecedented toxic air pollution reductions this rule will deliver.
For the first time ever, America's dirtiest power plants will be forced to dramatically cut the most toxic air contaminants in our communities, including mercury, acid gases, chromium, arsenic, dioxin, and other dangerous air emissions.
These reductions will prevent thousands of premature deaths every year and will significantly reduce our children's exposure to highly toxic mercury. Mercury exposure can cause brain damage in infants and experts estimate that hundreds of thousands of babies are born each year with potentially unsafe levels of mercury in their blood.
And this rule will generate extensive benefits to our economy, including health and environmental benefits with an estimated economic value of between $59 billion to $140 billion when fully implemented in 2016.
But, this victory is not about statistics. This is about standing together against some of the most powerful special interests in America and proving that we can still win big victories for our planet and our people.
Against daunting odds and powerful foes, your voice and the voices of tens of thousands of EDF activists were heard.
