I did a spot check yesterday while checking the wave actions for an intended tsunami watch.  But, will do more checking today!

Shelters trumping up their numbers for data is a post census action.  Federal and state funding depend on numbers--not humans.  Houseless are cash crops--not souls to shelters--so people play the game to survive.

"Shelters offer feedback on state's 90-day plan on homelessness
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state's 90-Day Plan on homelessness has reached the halfway point, and some homeless shelters are experiencing an increase in demand for meals and other services.
Part of the plan urges groups to stop feeding the homeless in public parks in an effort to push people to seek help at shelters.
Hawaii News Now's Lisa Kubota is following the story.
We'll have more details on this story tonight on Hawaii News Now beginning at 5 p.m.

  • When we feed the homeless, we talk, laugh, and seek out those that can transition out of the houseless situation.  Most times they are shocked, scared and depressed.  The new people are still very American and in want of material things so that is the underlying theme that gets played out.  If they desire American products that's a good sign that they want to try and get off the streets.  If they can read, that's what I look for--then one pushes the conversation further into deeper economic conversations...skills, work ethics, and drug use.  Need to push goals at that point!

I use to have information on hand as to where are all the shelters located..etc and vice versa..go to these places and talk story to the people outside the shelter services.  When one works out-of-pocket...you are reduced to just words of encouragements for those that can make it out of the hole.
