dont militarize hawaii

The Demilitarization and Human Rights program works to counter the negative social, economic, environmental and cultural impacts of the military presence in Hawai'i and to address the consequences of militarization on peace and security in the region. The program supports grassroots efforts to reclaim and transform military-occupied lands to peaceful, productive and sustainable uses in numerous sites in Hawai‘i, with particular attention to Native Hawaiian justice issues.  Networks and alliances include the DMZ-Hawai‘i / Aloha ‘Aina Network, International Network of Women Against Militarism, International Network for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases. A component of the work involves base building around environmental and social justice issues in affected communities, such as the development of the Wai‘anae Environmental Justice Working Group.  Another element is the CHOICES project which promotes awareness about the realities of and alternatives to military service and seeks to change school policies to protect students from military recruiter abuses.

  • I thought this article was amazingly striking and straight to the point of stopping the built up of the military in Hawaii.
