Law enforcement officers brief lawmakers about growing problem of cyber crime
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Some of Hawaii's leading internet crime investigators are briefing state lawmakers about personal and global threats in cyberspace.

Maui Police Chief Gary Yabuta told the panel of representatives that the next Pearl Harbor could be a cyber attack, and that officers must be properly trained and equipped to combat this invisible warfare.

Christopher Duque, a retired detective with the Honolulu Police Department, called the internet a "digital elephant" that never forgets anything that is posted.

Duque says pedophiles, cyber bullies, identity thieves and terrorists can easily access personal or sensitive information behind a cloak of anonymity.

"When I'm in cyberspace, I can be anyone I want to be," he said. "Are we chasing ghosts on the Internet?  Yes."
