Dear Doug,

Kahana Bay was in peril in the 80s, the Core of Engineers held a meeting at Kaawa Elementary School. "Sus Ono was the person in charge of DLNR at that time.
"Most of the struggles centered on who was going to own and control land and its use. Many developments displaced low-income residents who were living in rented homes and apartments by forcing them to move. This occurred throughout the island of Oahu: in Kalama Valley, Ota Camp, Chinatown, Waiahole/Waikane, Niumalu/Nawiliwili on Kaua'i, Coconut Grove, Waimanalo, Ewa, Sand Island, Mokauea Island, Heeia/Heeia Kea, and Kahana Valley." by Ed Greevy

It seems to me that Kahana Valley will always be the focus of harsh development because of the past and the unknown state action. Not trying to take credit, but I assure you all of  the residence wanted development other than except Mr. Bernie whom opposed to the development of Kahana Bay he was the lone voice.

Mr. Bernie called out(Kahea) to Marion Kelly and she documented the importance of Kahana Valley with the co-producer Nalani Minton. That CD is taught in Public Schools today to teach the concept and Ahupuaa system.

I assure you all Sus Ono was a mean ASSHOLE! He said, to Mr. Bernie at the bridge at Kahana Valley "that those of us that were living on 'state' land were squatters."

At the Kaawa Elementary meeting, there was one person in the audience that said," Kahana Bay is dead!" Sadly, most local residence agreed with that white dude idiot. It took many years to turn the community on it's head for being so lolo.

What the Core of Engineers wanted to do was to deep draft harbor for one, build a huge berm that would have destroyed the existing fish pond, and build a Marina that would lead all the way to the back of Kahana Valley. The most insulting thing was to build rich homes along side the valley on both sides leading into the valley. There was no other persons in opposition sitting in that room. With the formation of the PLDC that will surface again.

Having been at the not too recent protest where Neil Abercrumbee attended for votes, it seems to me that this could have been resting on his mind. Pono Kealoha did the documentation so that should be brought into the light. I spoke to Clayton Hee, Walter Ritte, and Mr. Logan at this protest and had to regenerate the reasons behind the interest of Kahana Valley. I have talked to the residence over and over since the 80s about what's on the plans for Kahana Valley. I have no credibility with these residence because they weren't in attendance nor are they willing to hear what transpired in that meeting with several state agencies. That's just because the residence in light of the Marina wants their boat parking lot more than the notion of concern for the environment.

Six wells were dug at the back of the valley for water that was piped to Kailua Town. Kailua'ians too wants the development for their real estate investments. These Kailua residence were in the audience because they wanted the water from Kahana Valley. They got Kahana Valley residence to support their need for water and organized the valley residence to attend.

At the (de) Occupy meeting these are the things that was on my mind. We were still feeling the effects of Sand Island when the Core of Engineers and Sus Ono's confrontation with MR. Bernie had occurred.
