Hi Kaohi.

I know some vets and they are not shooting innocent people. Covertly or overtly. They have seen death. Many of them appreciate life. Therefore some speak up. Even a retired Marine who was ordered to kill. Now he defends life.

Unless it's the ideology from your friend Neil Abercrombie who hates those men and women in the armed forces.

Ululani,

I wish I was in your safe zone overthere with a fairy tale life.  But, not so for us guys in the trenches.  Sorta what happens with the Pentagon and the basic details that unfold the actual blood seeping through our very spirit sorta thing.

The denial that shit rolls down the hill has always been a norm for princesses and prince.

I've known about the guns in our schools especially in Pearl City this past year, as a nobody, I shared a little bit of it with Pono Kealoha with a very heavy heart at that time.  As for Toby, he is not only one, but they are many, but fortunately, we have many people too out there on the streets preventing such tragedies--such as Aunty Annie and Uncle Kalani.  These are people Ululani you would not come to know in your life time.  But, they are being documented by Keala Kelly-- thank god she was willing to listened.

As for knowing the military, I doubt that you know any military outside of a bar, and possibly ones work place.

As for Neil he is a great guy that one would not really come to know because you are not nearly the leader that he and his wife are in these hard times.  As for the princess life style, I wish you all well on the hill for there is not much that I can say about the myths that one carries.

I know who you are talking about and yes he too is struggling through his post military service with the US.  Some people process overnight and move on and some don't--all that one can do is listen and pray that he resolves his painful and confusing issues.  Toby did not have that chance.  He too, is a soilder coming home from the war of 'Pinkville'.  Sinners are 'gods' country, in his eye.  The US military says it differently abroad in nonchristian communities.  That's another argument.

We are alive unlike the mother of ten that was killed by a son of a Christian .  He was 28 and she was 54.  I can only imagine the Chirstain soilder versus the community everyday person.  Like Vietnam which I call Pinkville.  Take this to mind when I say there is 'War' similar to the American Ghettos in Maui.  One would not understand the complexity of these problems in Hawaii.  The Ali'i always went away for a vacation when things got to rough in Hawaii.

    Just read this:

I think it is appropriate to what we are talking about...

"In addition, on the basis of the 2001 executive order for "Operation
Uttaran," the military has continued aggressive "anti‐insurgency" operations
and intervened in virtually all aspects of civil administration.    Military
operations in indigenous villages have led to violence against innocent
villagers. In addition, rape, sexual violence, and other forms of assault
continue against Indigenous women in violation of a number of human rights
instruments, including CEDAW, ICERD and article 22 of the UN Declaration.
Indigenous Peoples have called attention to the oppressive culture of
    impunity throughout the CHTs."

What happens in the world also touches our own 'aloha aina'.  As caring leaders one should step up to it's problems and quit the 'uku picking.'  Move on to the real and larger problems.

    Abstract

    BACKGROUND:

Escalation of youth violence within a large geographic school-complex area in southeastern rural Hawaii became a major problem in 2006. How cultural forces impact the problem was an impetus to examine youth violence from perspectives of adults and children in rural communities. Gathering these data was an essential first step toward school-based youth violence prevention program development.

    METHODS:

Eight focus groups involving 86 community stakeholders included 51 adults (parent, teachers, school staff, community leaders) and 35 children aged 8-15 years old (3rd- to 10-th grade). Qualitative narrative analysis elicited major themes.

    RESULTS:

Five themes emerged: (1) School-community violence takes on many forms that become entrenched in local culture. (2) Disintegration of community resources and a sense of learned helplessness underlie the escalation of youth violence. (3) Inadequate role modeling coupled with behavioral ambivalence among adults has sustained a climate of local cultural acceptance with youth violence. (4) Connection to cultural values has diminished, leading to a sense of loss in cultural identity among students. (5) Cultural values and practices are potential strategies for youth violence prevention.

    CONCLUSIONS:

Cultural and community contextual factors contributed to youth violence in rural Hawaiian communities. Study implications include the need to further investigate the impact of vigilant, community involvement of stakeholders in school-based youth violence prevention program development. Cultural revitalization at family, school, and community levels may be critical success factors of such programs.

  • In speaking to two Veterans that are well known on Maui, I was actually reaching out to two highly active Na Kanaka Kane.  It's because the Practioners are too busy picking flowers to put in their ear from my perspective.  Doing the political stuff, which makes no sense to me at the moment.  I want to stop the youth and their madness from taking hold of the community.  Rather than just depend on the authorities and their snail pace attitude (all about appropriations instead of crimanl science investigation) MADD and Click-it, I chose to take what little time I had and speak to the Vets.  Why the Vets, because I know they have street smart training and can see things which is not visible to civilian population.

Another 'eye' that one uses to figure out the mess that our young people are gaining momentum are the high tec., documentation, in general, people that work on youtube, facebook, and google earth and Olelo for information.  Does one know that elementary age children are savy with investigation math?  It's amazing what these youngsters will ask in any given situation.  Their mindset is wonderful and I am sad to say the older generation are just 'Don Quixote' in their thinking process.

It is worthless to venture targeting the governor and his wife from Maoliworld---sorta like hiding behind a curtain like the cowards that they are!
