We experience thousands getting their lives together and move out of poverty.  This is undocumented experieces that I myself have experienced both personally as well as in service to humanity.  According to my recent friends, they just experienced had people in the thousands in homeless situation.  And they had no idea to the magnitude of the problem until recently.  When I recently spoke to them they said this could happent too, in Hawaii.  At the present, I believe the numbers are estimated at 6,000 here in Hawaii, this I am not sure of.  What I am trying to say is that there are lots of people that do get off the poverty, and we just don't document them.

Feeding the homeless gets people off the streets, but again, these numbers are not documented.  It is because we are not out their for appropriations, we do things to give hope and a word or two to encourage them to try again to better themselves.

We also know in this economy its difficult, but history tells us that things were worst before.  Our great-grand parents suffered economic woes, but they did not give up!  Here in Hawaii according to all of my grandfathers and mothers--we had lots of fruit trees growing in the back yard and secondly, people went to the ocean to fish for their daily food.  Today, Hawaii can get past their woes too--with lots of cooperation and preparations.

I work with a friend of mind out here in Waianae, but recently because of sickness he is unable to come out to Waianae and feed the houseless.  This is what he had to say:

"great hearing from you. I didn't hear the exact words that Neil used in regards to "not feeding the homeless" but I don't see anything different in their overall policy towards the homeless. I personally think that this thought came from one of the Homeless Facility that has had problems with their intake numbers. If I were them I would take a hard look at their in-house policies that may be turning off the homeless. The basic problem does not come with an easy fix but I guess they don't want to admit it so we keep throwing away more monies on projects that don't work."

Taking time out to speak to Bob Erb at Kapiolani would have similar opinions, but one has to be cognizant of the situation and the meaness behind not feeding the homeless and to grasp the problems with houseless.  You or your love one might find oneself in a housless situation and may need a word or two to encourage you to work at not falling into economic woes--to the point of eating out of the garbage can.  One might even have to get a meal too from people like Bob Erb.  By the way his meals are fantastic and filled with love and care.

  • There are times maybe years gone by and someone will walk up to me of course unrecognized, would say thank you.  This is when I say thank god for my grandparents that always fed the people without even giving it a second thought.  Almost everyhome that I entered when I was a child asked me in to sit and have something to eat.  I just thought it is what all people do, I never thought that behavior was unique.
