AT LAST LYRICS

At last
my love has come along
my lonely days over
and life is like a song

Ooh, yeah, yeah
At last
the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
the night I looked at you

I found a dream
that I could speak to
A dream that I
can call my own
I found a thrill
to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Ohh, yeah, yeah

You smile
you smile
Ooh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine at last

RIVERSIDE, CA (RNN) - Legendary R&B singer Etta James, whose heavenly voice fired up songs both sassy ("The Wallflower") and soulful ("At Last"), died Friday from complications of leukemia, according to reports.

James, who had been receiving care in her Riverside, CA, home since March 2010, was taken to the hospital just a few days before Christmas.

Her husband and two sons were reportedly by her side at the time of her death. The 73-year-old singer passed away just five days before her Jan. 25 birthday.

Born Jamesetta Hawkins on Jan. 25, 1938, James is best remembered for her recording of Jazz standard "At Last." Her yearning vocals made the song her own, and the signature hit would go on to be played in weddings, movies and even at President Barack Obama's inauguration ball.

The three-time Grammy-winning R&B singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and was awarded the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.

She was also named one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone.

In early December, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that specialists had deemed James' leukemia incurable, after receiving confirmation from Dr. Elaine James, of no relation to the singer. In addition to her leukemia, the doctor also revealed that James suffered from dementia and kidney disease, among "many other" diseases.

That announcement, however, had been made without the family's agreement, according to a Reuters interview with James' two sons. Dr. James explained her comments were meant to spread the word of the singer's battle so fans could pray for her.

Artis Mills, James' longtime husband, will remain as conservator of her $1 million estate, according to the ruling of a Riverside County judge. The singer's son, Donto James, had previously requested appointment as temporary conservator.

Despite her illness, the singer released an album in November titled The Dreamer. The collection of classics, which included Guns N' Roses hit "Welcome to the Jungle," served as a rocking footnote to an accomplished career.

  • Our family still hold the truth about how it was back in the days when blacks and whites did not mix, connect or even talk to each other!

We have Magnolia trees growing in our yard to remind the missionaries and their friends about the strange fruits that hung from it.  A time when blacks were being hung from magnolia trees were very cruel years!
