"I do hope the people in Hawaii observed today's La Ho'omana'o or Memorial Day.  My family observed it with a candlelight dinner and recalling our loved ones who have gone before us and also of Nahi'ena'ena and those who made a difference in the lives of the Kanaka maoli in the past and others whom we admire and love.  I h0pe you stop and reflect on this Memorial Day and share this time with family and friends."  Tane

A Journey from Kapahulu to Kaneohe to wish my mom a happy birthday Dec 30th

"We began our Memorial Journey from Kapahulu giving reverence to family and our iwi, by the way ones that were desecrated by the state to build and develop modernity in Hawaii.  I acknowledged Alexander Auld and family at my birthplace on Hollinger Street.   It was an amazing drive through Hawaii Kai for many that have past crossed my mind.  Living in Kalama Valley and helping my mom raise pigs and sell eggs to the neighbors was an interesting trailing memories.  Joseph Kahahawai my second cousin a glimpse of ocean caps across the sea.  Marshall Kaniaupio brother the sounds of singing bamboo.  Just a brief stop at Makapuuu, and a glance through the hole that shined on me, I glanced across the mountains and blew a kiss to those that sleep neatly in their peaceful caves.   My tutu Kealoha's (Ahuna) pier protruding outward while chants are heard birds encircle her roof top in harmony.  My sister Jemima Mendiola-Waiolama play in the shore waves in front of our home 41-646 Kalanianaoly Hwy, my nostrils breath fresh air.  My dad Joseph Kaniaupio  (1845 Maunawili Road birth and death place, hence secured arms embraces my shoulders while driving to see our mom Louisa Kaniaupio at Hawaiian Memorial.
