Just a friendly reminder for tomorrowʻs (December 28, 2012) fundraiser for Mauna Kea! Please join us tomorrow at 5pm at Mark's Garage in downtown Honolulu for "Pūlama Mauna Kea." This concert fundraiser is to raise money to defend Mauna a Wākea against the Thirty-Meter Telescope.
Beautiful music will be provided by Jon Osorio, Daniel Carvalho, Duncan Kamakana Osorio, Kawika Kahiapo, Hawane Rios, and Ikaika Hussey.
We will also have a silent auction with some unique items that will be offered. For instance, Nelson Ho has generously donated a guided Mauna Kea Summit Tour and 4x4 Off-Road Trip.
This trip is for up to three people. Pick up - Hilo. Summit visit, of observatories locations, if desired. Off Road itinerary to be negotiated. Out to Pu'u Kanakaleonui or the Mana Road and Keanakolu Cabin and fruit orchard are options. 8 hours total.
Good for all of 2013. Value $250. Bidding starts at $75.00

Background:
You may already know that UHH is seeking a permit to allow the Thirty-Meter Telescope Corporation to put a huge 18-story telescope on Mauna Kea. Petitioners - Mauna Kea Anaina Hou, C. Ku Ching, the Flores-Case ‘Ohana, Deborah J. Ward, Kumu Paul Neves, and KAHEA - are contesting the permit. After a lengthy contested case hearing in 2011, the BLNR-appointed hearings officer recommended the permit be granted. The BLNR is going to review the recommendations on Feb 12th at a hearing in Hilo at 11am. No matter the BLNR decision, there may be legal action beyond the Feb 12th hearing - that's why we're fundraising.
