Kaohi: Aloha Maui...need to go to this meeting

July 21, 2011

Aloha Maui Applicants and Lessees,

It is my pleasure to invite you to attend two (2) upcoming Beneficiary Consultation meetings.  The first is a meeting to discuss the process to make a portion of our Pu‘unēnē lands in Central Maui available for revenue generation, as provided in the Maui Island Plan. The Hawaiian Homes Commission Act provides the Commission with the authority to take some of its lands and use them to generate revenue for homesteading and community initiatives.  We have major revenue generating lands on O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island, but this will be the first major revenue generating project onMaui.  The details for this meeting are as follows:

The second meeting is part of a series of statewide consultation meetings regarding updates to the Native Hawaiian Development Program Plan for the years 2011-2013.  This consultation will help the Department to consider your perspective on the services we provide for Individual Development, Community Development (Kūlia I Ka Nu‘u), Beneficiary Consultation, Planning activities, and Governance.  The meeting details are as follows:

  • any information from maui would be appreciated!!!
  • If a person benefits from any Hawaiian Program more power to them.  But, from my exprience it's about jumping through hoops and trying to reach for that carrots.  If one has a lot of youthful energies sure it might happen, but again from my experience its a long hard journey to get to where you want to go.  And most times, one falls short of your goal.  The objective is for the program to succeed and examining the program closely, one can see the failing rate of such, the program goals and objectives met, and your life pretty much upside down.  In the aftermath, or  post program, when they are all done and gone--one is left with community damage control.

The scholarship for DHHL is such, out of 600 applicants only 114 qualified and our of that number only 20 were actual leasees of DHHL.

I think before Albert " Alapaki" Nahale-a, Chairman  for Hawaiian Homes Commission, continues his trail of long suffering for beneficiaries, he needs to do a risk assessment.  I believe that if he does these studies (survey) money and lots of disfunctional intentions would be less disasterous to the beneficiaries.

Both UH Manoa and Chaminade University had set up scholarships specifically for DHHl leasees which is a good thing.  But what most don't experience is the set up--

    General Eligibility Requirements:

Be a dependent of a current resident who holds a leasee to a Hawaiian homestead property:

I am a grandma, my children were independent at 18 and out of the house in college. Again, I am a grandma with no dependencts, with only visiting grands.

So if I want this dependency, I have to have my children live at home and everyone at my residence.  NOT eligible

Have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher, --belive it or not--I had a lower high school GPA and I still entered college and graduated.  it was difficult but I did it and without the help from any Native Hawaiian programs.

Have a SAT of 900 or an Act of 18, and --Not sure what is an Act of 18, but one should ask.  I had a score of 650 and I still got a BA in Geography!

Be a full-time day undergraduate student.  I put in full time, died a lot--with very little college preping.  I just had a lot of sel-determination to get to my own objective and that was to achieve my goals.

If I should choose to go back for my master's it's a three hour drive from Waianae.

I voluteered my whole college career, it was my way of teaching self by teaching others--so I tutored Japanese Students.

    The expected outcomes:

Increase the education and self-sufficiency of Hawaiian youths and adults.

Provide education and career planning services for Hawaiian homestead communities

Increased numbers of native Hawaiians obtaining college degrees.

Increased earning poer for ntive Hawaiians in the long term.

    Increased job readiness.

Increased numbmer of native Hawaiians with work experience.

The above is wonderful if GOD creates an extra six hours in a day.  When I entered UH Manoa, I opened up Non-Traditional Office at UH Manoa with Ken Kawamoto.  It was because of the political agenda of Displace Homemakers agenda from Patsy Minks this opportunity arised.  It was unheard of for a native Hawaiian female adult to enter college in the 80's.  I also worked for three years to have a Women Center at UH Manoa.

UH Manoa is a research university and one cannot do the 150-175 volunteer positions per year.  That is nuts!  Adults are, in my case, matriarchs with lots of responsibilities and things to do in the day.  That's why we have a high drop out rate from pre-school to graduate school--we are always expected to wipe someones do do!

A scholarship for education should be a given!  And when that attitude or character behavior of getting a college degree catches on in every leasees mind only than should we jump through hoops and reach for carrots.  We are expected to only "keep up with the dying race!"  On yes, and lay down beside the road--that was yesterday.  Today na Kanaka live under bushes and sit on picnic tables during the day!  Three out of five siblings fail to be economic self sufficent because our culture expections are always to help others and ourselves last--if we ever get around to the "me."

At these meetings there is a lot of handouts that gives the policy 'joes' a look see and touchy feeling good time for the marginalized population of the DHHL program.  As for participation, most go home and forget about it.

  • I wasn't able to go to Kapolei or Waimanalo, but made it to McKinley's meeting.

    Naturally the confusion was massive!

This past Sunday I heard from the Waimanalo homesteaders as to how bad it was, so I made it to the McKinley's meeting from Waianae.  Eventhough, I worked at Pearl City went home to Waianae, I was still able to make this meeting.

They have these billboards and presenter's like a high school science fair (unfunctional), if I might say.

Alapaki's  hidden agenda is to internally destroy the homestead's that are 50% plus bloodquantum as we sleep.

The General Lease's showed up at McKinley's meeting in drove's.  At each billboard section if one can listen carefully all presenter's were there for the less than 50% plus bloodquantum leases.  Alapaki is definitely one of them out-of-context beneficiary.  For example: Scholarship Billboard (American Style), 114 got awarded and only 20 were leasee.  The rest that got awarded came from the general lease group.

I've been up against Sus Ono during the days many moons ago, so DLNR houses the so-called general leases at bay, to whereas we are unable to access the revenues of 14 million (back in 1978).  These revenues goes into the state's general fund! A typical carrot!

Here are the presenter's:  Ask any kine questions no mattah! Alapaki has an agenda (hidden) that all questions lead to the general leases.  Nothing from his mouth is for the 50% plus bloodquantum except the wait list of 35,000 that is on a world wide web for the whole world to see.

Talk about 'I spy" I kicked google earth out of my homestead!  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do it before they published every resident in the homestead.  Search any address and one can see one's driveway instantly!

Have fun and just in enjoy the night!
