Many blogs or forum discussion is on the AKAKA BILL. If you for it, then u better know what in it for you - NOTHING! You will be another number, then next, ANOTHER NUMBER, next, ANOTHER NUMBER. THIS PERTAINS TO LANDS THE U.S. WANTS TO CONTROL- OUR AINA. DID THE QUEEN DIE IN VAIN FOR HER PO'E TO SIT BACK AND RELAX? NO, SHE SAID EDUCATE YOURSELF AND KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT CHALLENGE US TODAY. LOOK AWAY FROM THE PILI GRASS RATHER THAN IT WILL SLICE U IN HALF!
IF U CAN'T MAKE IT, SEND AN EMAIL TO LET THEM KNOW YOU DON'T SUPPORT THE AKAKA BILL. EVERY MINUTE THAT GOES BY PUTS HAWAIIANS AT RICKS FOR BEING DISPLACED. IF U HAVE TO WORK, ITS OKAY, BUT SEND IN EMAIL OR OUT TO OTHERS AS TANE AND KAHU HAS POSTED. TWO MINUTES OF YOUR LIFE CAN MEAN A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR OUR KEIKI. YOU CAN MARCH, YOU CCAN SIGN WAVE, EMAIL OR WRITE TO YOUR REPRESENTATIVES.
IF YOU DON'T SAY ANYTHING, DON'T GRUMBLE OR COMPLAIN. IF YOU DO SOMETHING PONO TO GET THE MESSAGE OUT, IT IS YOUR KEIKI AND MINES WILL SMILE. I WANT YOU TO GET UP AND DO SOMETING TO SEND THE MESSAGE - WE AINT TAKING IT ANYMORE!
Tane, Pono, Lynette and others can only do so much, as a community we can move mountains and ask for your kokua. Do it for your tutu and let us write our own bill and tell them what we want. They will never hear your words when you do nothing about it!

Roust up what we don't like about it and then petition and send it to Obama...I leave this up to the old timers on this subject because they know exactly where the loopholes are whether for it or not for it and why. We all sign it by understanding what we do or do not want and why.
I'm not the expert on the Akaka Bill to nitpick like most but if I know Obama and his thinking....he will think it is good for us and need to hear from our community as to why it isn't good for us or he will put it through thinking it is good for us. Need to pinpoint to Obama why in this day and age it isn't good for us if you can leave out Sovereignty as the most reason and just use Sovereignty as "a matter of fact" conclusion kind of thing.
Obama knows the history, I'm pretty sure he knows how we feel but he's trying to grasp it for the whole world to understand and make right the wrong within reason of everything on a national scale especially if there is no unity in us at all. There are soo many groups claiming different things and this is part of the confusion to be for or against it.

Yes, unity. The great thing about every discussion enables us to voice our mana'o. It helps to clarify and point areas we don't understand. Whether you are for or agains the AKAKA BILL, the main thing you are informed what the bill entails and doesn't provide to the po'e. There was an attorney who reviewed the AKAKA BILL and gave his opinion of how it was written and his mana'o was superb questioning each line was written.
Good points. Especially the part about what WE want. Have they asked us what WE want? LOL So annoying.
I also want to add one thing that I've learned (and I try to learn something new every day):
"Logic makes people think. Emotions make people act."
I don't wanna be so blunt but if we don't act then our mo'opuna not going have any thing. Perhaps THEN *we* will finally realize if *we* no DO anything or if *we* no say anything then they will have it much much harder.
I hope other oiwi not going wait... til it's too late.
If I appear pushy in a reponse, let me know. I can tell you this, at least I care. YES, imagine nothing for our children. I watched others do nothing. I listened to the po'e make fun of the Hawaiians. Sometimes, basic common sense cost to much time to do anything or saying anything for our keiki.
I feel the pain of our ancestors and I'm sure everyone else does. What small steps we make will have an impact for tommarrow.
IF THE MESSAGE WAS THAT EVERY KANAKA MAOLI IS GOING TO JAIL IN SEVEN DAYS, STRIPPED OF ALL WORLDY POSSESSIONS (KEIKI), what would you think the po'e will do. Don't wait till something drastic happens. An email to Obama makes a difference. Sharing your mana'o makes a difference.
The day will come and you have to select where you stand, which side will you be....UNITED STATES OF NO AMERICA or HAWAII NEI. I invision my husband will have that challenge, however in the meantime I don't expect him to understand the struggles we are faced, but to understand the struggles we fight is for our children - yours, mines and everyone elses.
WE WANT A BETTER LIFE to raise our children on the 'aina that our kupuna lived for thousands of years with being stomped upon!
