Catherine Bauknight's Award Winning documentary film, "Hawaii A Voice For Sovereignty" will be the subject of discussion this coming Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 7:00am HST, on The Na 'Oiwi 'Olina Radio Show. The show is accessible worldwide at www.am940hawaii.com.
"Hawaii A Voice For Sovereignty" gives voice to the native people of Hawai'i and explores the culture of the Native Hawaiians and their connection to the land. The film focuses on the social, economic, environmental, and political issues that have developed in Hawai'i since the overthrown of Hawaiian Monarch, Queen Lilliu'okalani, in January, 1893. The film includes interviews with numerous Native Hawaiians as they discuss these issues and the affects on their lives.
Joining Catherine for the radio interview will be Hawaiian Cultural Specialist, Clifford Nae'ole.
"Hawaii A Voice For Sovereignty" had its world premiere at the Capitol Visitor's Center in Washnington, D.C. Its Hawaii premere was at the Maui Film Festival where it recieved the Audience Appreciation Award - Best Hawaii Film.
The Na 'Oiwi 'Olina Radio Show is made possible by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
