Homestead Act: Divided Its People

According to Kauanui, the author stated that land tenure in Hawaii was initiated by the Great Mahele and may have contributed to lands being controlled by settlers. The blood quantum for Hawaiian homes eventually was at 50% which decreased the potential applicants who had less. Sugar owners pushed and shoved their “weight politically” to ensure that they have access to thousands of acres of land. Although the Homestead Act was intentionally to rehabilitate Hawaiians, however sugar growers monopolized and controlled economic growth in the islands. The blood quantum and citizenship as Kauanui inferred controlled Hawaiians as well as divided families. By controlling land tenure in Hawaii, the U.S. has been able to exploit Hawaiians and still left them landless in the islands we call our home! Between 1917- 1921, sugar and ranching leases accounted for 200,000 acres and they had no intentions of returning the land back to Hawaiians. Reference: Kauanui, J. (1999). Forget Hawaiian entitlement. Configuration of land, “blood,” and Americanization of Hawaiian homes commission act of 1921. Social Text, 59(2), 123-144. My self-reflection or analysis: This pilikia exist. There is homelessness among Hawaiians, blood quantum divided our people and greediness of settlers appeared to be prominent among the elite missionaries families. Our people are landless in Hawaii. If I was asked this question, my reply would be that I would create a bill that prevents any settler from purchasing 'aina in the islands. All lands go back to the Hawaiian Kingdom! All business in Hawaii is owned by the Hawaiian Kingdom! All taxes are paid to the Hawaiian Kingdom.

  • "The blood quantum and citizenship as Kauanui inferred controlled Hawaiians as well as divided families." said Namaka. Inferred or not, this existed then and now.
As I said, had our Na Kupuna's given a second rebuttal they would have inputted genealogy, they did not agree to a quantum, however, as horrible it seems they lived this stupid reasoning, and manage to offer their future generations 200 thousand acres. The native Hawaiian's with 50% plus blood quantum living on DHHL were always considered the 'lepers' of the times, Hawaiian Homestead Na Kupuna's of the 1920s have managed to turn that around from their graves.

In 1974-1978, it was your own people getting caught up in the game of genocide. Let me define people--our people (native Hawaiians). How do I know this because I was there!

It is the cause or the effects (Don Quixote), truth or windmills. Point, blood quantum is a windmill!!!!!!

Go to genocide and you will be forced to discipline your reasoning to prevent the absolute annihilation of our people. Non-profit organizations were organized at DHHL during Mrs. Padekan (sp) directorship. The Bishop Estate/Nature Conservancy infiltrated- did away with Rehabilitation Program (as in small business) replaced with 'signing' everyone up for DHHL land which was a good try, but all signees were voided after seven years.

Recalling the notion, "The part of having to have 50% or more Hawaiian Blood is only part of the hewa..." it's a Windmill!!!!

"more than a genocidal thing; "(these words were only being spoken by Kawaipuna that came out of the Native American movement and either use it well or toss the jargon).

"The part that says "descendants of the aboriginal people of these lands prior to 1778" this is the real shit! Why? During the formation of OHA in 1979 these words were being used to remove the quantum from DHHL for OHA.

Back then, we did not even know how to spell or identify with sovereignty. And, no one 'talked' Hawaii Nationals. The point is--- if we are going ghost hunting (in a contemporary manner) lets have fun.

Foster-----draw me an F----k map and let’s get on with the real game! How is your 'legacy lands' doing? Look at your pinkie toes, what are you standing on? Easy question, I'll answer it for you, my ancestor’s graves!

Lastly, Dennis Dunn from the 1979 Nanakuli Rape Case period realized that the government did not have control and that our families were strong and held together, unfortunately, he did set out to do just that "controlled Hawaiians as well as divided families". This governor sold approx 3,000 native Hawaiian children on the black market to the State of California for 14 million to save her state budget. Namaka---did you not experience this at Zablands, Nanakuli?

By the way, I trademarked 'Native Hawaiian' in 1979. I just didn't want to be a Hawaiian like Californian's or some state crap! So, I have been through the big peepee little peepee in a teepee abuses. Kaohi
    • Kaohi....and you point is???

Obviously it seems you've been at this longer than many of us and reached a place and understanding that you seem to hold with conviction...good.

No condenscension intended, but when you say "draw me a F---k map and let's get on with the real game!" what is the real game to you kaohi? Maybe since you've been there back in `the 70's...a little more guidence and a little less frustration would go a lot further.

So Kaohi...(with resentment intended) ) you said "your pinkie toes, what are you standing on? Easy question, I'll answer it for you, my ancestor’s graves!".... "I trademarked 'Native Hawaiian' in 1979. I just didn't want to be a Hawaiian like Californian's or some state crap!"..."I have been through the big peepee little peepee in a teepee abuses. Kaohi"...so what you doing about it now?

The real game is this...if you too tired standing up to all the hewa already, that's ok...rest. Enjoy the rest of life.....the effects of all that was caused from the arrival of the foreigners, missionarres and all, to right this very NOW is still unfolding and far from reaching any kind of "conclusion."

I leave you this with sincerity.....a hui hou with aloha

        Don't Leave!!!
Stay in the real game, stop the talk. I can trace your everyword and connect the dots, and when I do this it smells. I know it's not your smell, and I really don't care whose it belongs to, what I want from Maui is the truth.

As for the peepee to teepee thing I retired from the Pocahontas syndrom and went to college, only to come home to bury too many homesteaders that were to weak to fight off Hawaiian male greed. I will be standing up to your stupidity from my grave, so to speak.

The last time, I couldn't get pass your superego, your romantic notions about foreigners, and missionaries (did you just borrow a book from the library?). Going to the library is good, try a university library as oppose to community ones, second book stores have far reaching insights than a community library.

Foster, if you don't tend to your 'legacy lands' that's your cause for doom not the cheap effect. Wipe your nose and get to work. Everything is encrypted you leave trails from point A to point B. we use to call this donkey not that your are an Ass. It was our way of keeping tract of who was saying what and to whom. Now we talk on this open forum for all one eyes to see. Kaohi
        • .,.Huh???????....Wha!!!
  • I would create a bill that prevents any settler from purchasing 'aina in the islands.

Exactly. They should have done this in 1978 at the very least but it does not surprise me that they didn't. In the Haole World land is an appreciable asset so of course some pilau people want it and will do anything to get it including trying to create the Akaka Bill aka the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act which is REALLY the Native Hawaiian LAND Reorganization Act. Even in the name they do not fully disclose their goal which is shady. Thus the power of words. It can create... or it can destroy. In this case IMHO they are trying to destroy all of us by destroying our roots by trying to take the land. (Once we lose our land we lose our roots.) They just won't say it. They are deceitful which I don't particularly appreciate.

Another Great Mahele of sorts only this time they are trying to TOTALLY strip away the property rights of legal heirs and are setting us up by trying to set up a trust to transfer our title as legal heirs... without our written consent and transfer title of legal heirs to themselves. Problematic is that IF it passes the senate how many oiwi can afford a retainer fee to an attorney or attorneys to protect what is ALREADY theirs? Aue some people!

All taxes are paid to the Hawaiian Kingdom.

I agree with this. TOTAL independence from the U.S. and they have to pay taxes for the "privilege" of doing business in the HK.
  • Take notice of what the Akaka Bill does... it sets Hawaiians up as a political class of people that are less than U.S. citizens. The reason for this I believe is to be able to legalize the theft of all our land. The other thing that we have to remember from the ceded lands issue is that an act by a congressional body that doesn't have verbs in it doesn't mean a thing. In other words we will not be able to require the Federal government or the state to gives us compensation or land for the theft. We learned this in the Oha vs State of Hawaii case. Nothing should change at this point until more Kanaka Maoli can truly understand what the affect on us will be. OHA pushing for global settlement is another bull shit issue too. We need to put some trustees in there that care.
  • Or. You could do what some native American tribes have done in the past and create a non profit organization and funnel federal funds and/or assets into the organization. Since Hawaii had a distinct, actual religion, the organization could be a spiritual or religious foundation. Copyrights, intellectual property could be held in trust. Land could be, but doesn't have to be, gated. I hear get one 'fire sale' oin Hawaii... All businesses on the land could pay a 'spritual' tax to the entity for the betterment of its people in spirituality. The entity would have a counsel that determines economic decisions just like the state of Hawaii does. I don't know how land tax would work under land bought back under this way, perhaps there are advantages and disadvantages? Of course, the entity would be temporary until actual recognition/sovereignty/independence was granted.

Administration of the entity will be the hardest part, of course. Mr. 'Gold' says he never met a man he didn't like or didn't like him, so many examples of what not to do...

My self-reflection's worth. I hand wrote a 'picture' of my 'utopia' a while back. It was several pages of following my train of thought. Maybe if I find some time I'll type it out.
  • The Hawaiian Homes Act is a Federal Law. The "definition" of a so-called "Native Hawaiian"...Big "N" and Big "H" is in this Federal Law....meaning everyone who calls themselves a "Native Hawaiian" by this Federal (Hawaiian Homes Act of 1920) definition is by "Legal" definition a tribal...less-than-national...subject to the laws and abuses of the US Federal Government...no matter what lies they've promised you.

The part of having to have 50% or more Hawaiian Blood is only part of the hewa...more than a genocidal thing; the part that says "descendants of the aborigional people of these lands prior to 1778" makes it a "legal" thing for the US to DENATIONALIZE ALL Hawaii nationals and steal the lands and throw those left on to the reservations.

These crooks already made us (in there laws) a tribal people just like the Indians on Reservations in the Americas.

Check out the Akaka Bill...the part that defines "Native Hawaiians"....the desclaimer at the end of the beaitufully written deinition...you'll see that the Akaka Bill and all what they saying the bill covers, etc....cannot be overrule Federal Laws.

...in other words...Federal laws will trump the Akaka Bill even if the Bill passes into law.

    Maka`ala....Speak Up!
