A hiker fell 400 feet to his death this afternoon at the back of Makua Valley in the Waianae Mountains, fire officials said.
Two men in their 20s or early 30s were hiking in the eastern part of Makua when one of them fell off the ledge, officials said.
A fire helicopter picked up the second man and brought him off the trail.
Fire crews will return tomorrow to recover the first hiker's body, officials said.
There was no immediate identification.
