Hawaiian Proposal for the United States

HAWAIIAN PEACE PROPOSAL FOR THE UNITED STATES Great solutions don’t always come from experts. Sometimes a fresh look brings out the best solution. This is what the we Hawaiians recommend. There is an increasing hostility against the United States in the Middle East. George Bush claimed that the reason of the hostility comes from the Arab world's desire to have the American freedom and lifestyle. Well, Americans brought freedom to the Iraqis, didn't they? But the Iraqis seem to be destroying what the American government claims that they have been longing for. Total nonsense. How about accepting the reasoning of the Arabs at face value, which is that Americans unconditionally support Israel that discriminates against the Palestinians, and continuously oppresses them? There is a solution that neither Condoleezza Rice, nor Hillary Clinton ever thought of or dared to utter: just follow good American traditions! The American soldiers along with the coalition troops should leave Iraq now. The coalition troops should go home and defend their own countries. The Iraqis are big boys; they will sort out their differences either in unity or by breaking up their land into three countries. What difference would it make for the American or the Hawaiian working class if there were a Shiite Iraq, a Sunni Iraq and Kurdistan? Nothing at all! History is full of similar examples. But what do we do with the American troops? It is a long way back to the U.S.; so let them just go over to Israel. The Israelis should be welcoming them with open arms, since the Americans sacrificed the life of nearly 4300 of their comrades (with more than 200 of Hawaiian ancestry among them) to protect Israel's interest, while the Israelis did not contribute a single soldier to the international coalition. While in Israel, just take advantage of the Israeli hospitality, and follow the 1893 example of Hawai‘i: overthrow the Israeli government and in due course annex the country. Just like they did Hawai‘i in 1898. This will make Israel a happy US possession and the Arabs would be pacified too. They would no longer pose a threat to Israel, because it would be part of the U.S. There would be no more Palestine issue either, because there would be no more excuse not to implement the Road Map to Peace that the US heavily cosponsored earlier in the UN. Don't try to misinterpret the good intention of the Americans and accuse them of taking away the freedom of the Israelis! No way! Just like in Hawai‘i and in Iraq, the American troops would “bring” additional freedom to them. There is, however, a little blemish in the plan, namely that nowadays nations somehow frown upon annexations, at least those who are not practicing it. But that is easy to remedy. American political traditions are the way out again. The Americans who annexed Israel would hold a plebiscite (like a referendum) for the residents of Israel, just like they did for Hawai‘i in 1959. The residents will have to vote and have two choices: 1 – Either to retain their status as an American possession, or 2 – To join the U.S. and become one of their states. Yes, I know: Article 73 of the UN charter calls for three mandatory choices in plebiscites: retaining their status, joining the state of the occupiers and granting the right to self-determination. American traditions will help again. They will conveniently forget about the third choice, self-determination, just like in 1959 in Hawai‘i. And by the way, they would make sure that the plebiscite is held at least one year after the annexation of Israel, so that the American military personnel would be included among the voters; again, just like in Hawai‘i. They will want to be sure of the outcome, won't they? As predictable, the overwhelming majority of the votes will be for joining the United Sates and the American lawmakers can become diligent about creating a constitution for the new American state of Israel, since they could not create one for themselves since 1948. But wait, that's not all! It would be an extra expense to remake all those American flags with the 50 stars because of one addition. No! They would not have to do that. Instead they can release Hawai‘i from the United States. Let us Hawaiians have our stolen independence back; let us have our kingdom or republic, whatever we desire. Thus no alteration to the American flag would be necessary. Hawai‘i would be able to follow the wise diplomacy of its ancestors by forging alliances instead of creating enemies like the United States does. And what about the American troops in Hawai‘i? Hawai‘i won't need them. They could go back to the mainland, because the troops in Israel would have to stay for a long time to receive the never-ending delegations of other countries coming to thank them for defusing this powder keg that had endangered the entire world. The Israelis would benefit too: they would have their own representation in the US Congress and would not have to lobby covertly for their interests. And Hawai‘i would be a safe, aloha-spirited, self-sustaining independent country again in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This is how a simple swap could save the world, make the Arabs happy, the Hawaiians happy and the Americans could take all the credit for it. And what about the happiness of Israelis? Again, just follow the American traditions, like in Hawai‘i: who gives a damn!

  • All I can say is wow. How's that for perspective. Interesting read.
    • Even if it is a bleak perspective, we have to come out with ideas, even if they are sarcastic and just idealistic, plus, at the same time remind our people of the ways on how the Hawaiian people were tricked or cheated, to be finally be exploited till they are extinct.
      • Economically exploited and politicallly dominated!
