Final Goodbye For Former Honolulu Mayor Fasi

A motorcade carrying former Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi's casket passed by Honolulu Hale and the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building for the final time today.

The motorcade then proceeded mauka on Alapa'i Street, 'ewa on Beretania Street, mauka on Queen Emma Street before heading directly to Punchbowl.

Fasi was buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl in a private service.

Fasi, 89, died Feb. 3 of natural causes. Following yesterday's hourlong formal service, hundreds of mourners made their way through Honolulu Hale to view the closed casket and give their condolences to the Fasi family.

  • When I ride The Bus, occasionally, I think of him. LOL... He was a person that to some they loved to hate. His legacy will always be remembered as a warrior and a man of action. He stood up to adversity just as our Queen stood up to to hers. He transcended party lines to fight for the things the community wanted and needed; and on his terms. I didn't agree with him or his methods a few times; but for the most part, I admired him and his bon vivant flair. I'm sure many would miss him. Sometimes a sort of "shit-stirrer" to keep people accountable for their actions and intentions; especially other politicians. He called things as he saw it. You gotta love that guy!
    • ALOHA Mai. e Tane, I stayed home and watched his services on TV. I knew of Fasi's ALOHA for Hawaii and of his support for our peope. In my eyes there is no one in the political stage that can measure up to Fasi.
