Okay got that, mahalo for the civility you incorporate. As noted you have much experience on DU and the homeless situation locally in W'aianae your first hand accounts are important as you are dealing directly with the situation at source.
Recently on the mainstream Hawaiian newspapers there was an article about the Kamehameha Schools, some of the pupils gave their personal accounts about the Trustees admissions policy, the Editorial staff of the newspaper deleted unfortunately all comments shortly thereafter possibly due to a deterioration in the standards of commentary so civility is crucial.
Hawaiian Nationals it is hoped for the future are ambassadors of etiquette always in dealing with Americans on forums at all times knowing what is at stake, what you see here on MW is only 00.01% of the abuse you can expect to encounter out there on the local Hawaiian media.....L.O.L.
The important feature was the Kamehameha students themselves expressing their views without teacher supervision. Their insights in student (as you term it) "talk story" were most innovative.
Also, Kaohi of late there was a memorial tribute to the late navigator Mau Pialug (R.I.P.), a noteworthy anti-Sovereignty proponent used this occasion to spin an uncomplimentary series of comments. American readers of the article particularly those with a maritime interest would most likely have been appalled that one of their Citizens used the tribute to create dissent among Mau's many admirers.
At present Kaohi, as a viewpoint (from the outside looking in) the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement is making exceedingly good ground, there is a vast amount of work to be done however.
My personal concern is that there are many here on MW using the site for social reasons only, a viewpoint most likely unappreciated and disliked but nonetheless necessary. If members only spent 5%-10% of this time in researching information on say Royal Patents, or the stop-Akaka Bill signature comments, etc. that information could be used to launch into the mainstream local media. A member from Maui say could use the information to post comments on three or four forums of the local newspapers on that island. So is the case with the other mokupuni.
Maoliworld is but a small segment of the Hawaiian National community but the importance of all contributing cannot be over emphasized.
Additionally, many Americans have concerns about Hawaiian Independence and their rights regarding property, business, taxation, etc. At present Kaohi you have to navigate around a number of different sites to get the Independence perspective. As an opinion only Hayden Burgess has detailed what the Independent Hawaiian Nation would like like from an economic perspective.
A new Sovereignty Model needs creation a case of returning to the drawing board collectively, here again this is an unsolicited opinion and many members here on MW will possibly disagree.
Americans for the most part are obsessed with money, the easiest and fastest way of drawing them favorably to the Independence cause is that they would be paying say 50% less taxation under Independence, this may appear a tall order but when you put concentrative thought into it by group consensus it could actually be achieved.
Much money is wasted in lack of financial accountability and OHA is a very good example. From way back to 2008 reports by one former OHA Trustee the wastage is astonishing. There are some very decent intent people working for OHA who are Hawaiian at heart, but they as an Organization are creating much division within the Hawaiian National community in backing the Akaka Bill.
As for yourself and Pomai' this is very commonplace in 'ohana and community, easiest thing to do Kaohi is extend the lima of friendship ladie's first! ...L.O.L.
life is too short for pilikia, that is the old Hawaiian way, as a Grandmother Kaohi you know we males can never be quelled or controlled....L.O.L.
