Conklin and his idiots like to trash the Queen with their spin on history, facts, and blame shifting. Here is the truth about Opium and Lottery Bill:
A strong nationalist, Liluokalani tried to replace the Bayonet Constitution with one which would favor native Hawaiians, but was intimidated her into letting the old constitution stand. In 1892 the Hawaiian Legislature passed a law permitting the import and sale of opium. The bill favored Chinese businessmen, and Americans were enraged when the queen signed it, although according to the Bayonet Constitution she had no choice but to sign every bill the legislature passed. She was also castigated for signing a bill that legalized the lottery.

This was a couple of years ago at the Advertiser Forum. The reason I posted it was because the same old arguments are used today. Whenever we see Hawaiian issues discussed or misinformation generated, we should put a stop to it by citing facts. Maka'ala! It goes on all the time. so when you see this happening, please respond and set the record straight with the facts.
Conklin is far from an expert and some of his responses epitomize the hypocrisy and ignorance common in American culture. I also know that he and a few others lurk at the Yahoo group for Hawaiian sovereignty. I also KNOW that he lurks here. Can we say SNEAKY and INACCURATE? LOL
When doing research he should know better then to cite subjective material and pass it off as "research." He should remain objective and cite material. His "research" is wholly subjective material and would not pass peer review. He epitomizes much of what is "wrong" about America and I love to be one of the many people who point that out *LOL*
Responses to him make me laugh because the more I read responses to his responses the more the deceiver is exposed. I also find it amusing when I address him in the third person LOL
To make a long story short though I have dealt with someone like Conklin before but on a Board of Directors. He was mentally unstable and tried to spread misinformation of the truth. With the people's help... I ended up helping to unseat him because the people trusted me. Same thing with Conklin. People are not easily deceived. I don't mention this to brag or boast. Instead it is to show that despite the PILAU people like that guy who tried to threaten and intimidate me at my FRONT DOOR LOL and despite that guy trying to spread misinformation of the truth... in the end he failed. I ended up unseating him. Same with Conkin.
I say more like " cow crap." Where ever he steps in "cow crap" when using material out of "wack." When using scholarly research against U.S. (e.g. journal), the U.S. can't hide far from the truth. Teir own documents get them into trouble. When it pertains to Hawaiian history, who wrote it, not us! Oh, we are only going to tell you what you need to know. Guess what, we're alot more akamai and staying on these issues consistently keeps themon their toes!
The fun continues as this person, Polo, makes a stupid argument as many U.S. Americans have about Hawai'i.

What a spin! This generalization is specious and misleading. You've taken Hawaii national issues and placed it in a US domestic issue and wonder why it does't fit.
Simultaneously you speak of apples and ohelo; it's not the same thing. You are blaming the imperfection of the apple on the ohelo.
Most part-Hawaiians, today, have more than a "squirt" of Hawaiian. If you are speaking of the poor people of US America not being able to afford education and health, there are programs that address those problems regardless of race. That argument is moot.
Because of the US enforced belligerent occupation of Hawaii, The US violates the laws of occupation which is why the confusion of many people living here in Hawaii. Most are ignorant of the factual situation and cannot comprehend the nature of the problem. Instead they prefer to belittle the Hawaii Nationals and vent their anger on them.
It is not the fault of the Hawaii Nationals but that of the USA government's decption and fraud. Under the laws of occupation, US citizens violate it by immigrating here. All you're concerned about is your right as a US American and ignore the rights of the Hawaii Nationals.
You quote Hawaiian Kingdom Laws and many of it is similar with US American laws; but the fact remains that the US has violated and suppressed the HK laws by supplanting its own laws and enforces it. The Apology Bill acknowledges the illegal occupation and the fact that the Hawaii Nationals never relinquished their claim to their nation and rights to their lands nor ever been compensated. Racism is a USA WASP thing and not a Hawaiian thing.
The US is trying to find a way out of this mess that they created. The only way the "promises" can be realized is when the USA de-occupies Hawaii. Those lands are inherited by the Hawaii Nationals of whom some were of other ethnicity. It's the USA who has imposed a tribal racist thing to separate the majority of Hawaii Nationals to ignore the minority of the Hawaii Nationals to fit their own schemes so people look at Hawaii as they do the Native American Indians.
Many of us are against the Akaka Bill, the use of Kau Inoa to support it, and OHA's intent to create a little US puppet governing entity to make believe it's a nation within a nation crap. We requested a hearing on all islands to discuss the bill and were summarily denied by Akaka and Inouye. Even Native Americans were agitated by the bill; so the clause that we wouldn't receive any of their money was inferred.
What they need is for the Hawaiians to create a mock government to negotiate the lands and resources that they didn't relinquish to the USA. That's what this bill is all about. The USA needs to look legitimate in acquiring Hawaii. It's about the USA saving face.
Thanks for the rebuttal. There is so much of this BS out there, Sometimes it is difficult to respond w/out being angry and my thoughts don't come out clearly. Holdfast to the truth, the whole truth and always remember na kupuna as our source of strength and determination. Mahalo.
