The following was submitted to the Advertiser's Letter to the Editor today, Wednesday, August 26 ... It is well established that one has to meet the age requirements, be a u.s. citizen, live in the particular jurisdiction and be registered in order to vote. Only registered voters can vote to amend county charters, the state constitution or on referenda to amend the federal constitution. Yet, Senator Akaka, his congressional cohorts, OHA trustees and its legal corps (including a former state supreme court justice, a couple of circuit court judges and other legal experts - in the guise of the Akaka Bill - feel that u.s. citizens of Hawaiian ancestry (who are not allegiant and registered subjects of the Kingdom) can vote to re-organize (amend) the Hawaiian Government (that I presume to be the Hawaiian KIngdom) as a u.s. governmental entity. Does signing up for OHA's Kau Inoa meet the constitutional requirements for voting in the Kingdom? One wonders whether all these experts have passed Government 101 or not. Well? ku

Some peoples children think they came from some claws of birds wrapped in blue blankets! My comment is for the posting for the previous poster.

Thank you natural born for even beginning with the word Natural it warms my spirit because birthing is important.

About the Vatican the answer is yes! And they have done that already.

To understand the process one must read Amelia's Piracy posting she's tapped into something I knew existed and she writes far more clearly than anyone I know on this subject. I understand how difficult it is to read her in debt posting and get past the wall of resistance. But, that is all part of being real and true to your thoughts and spirits.

In my simple explanation 'the law of the sea' was under the jurisdiction of the Vatican and the US James Polk Manifest Destiny expansionism waned back and forth between his presidency and congress. I'm too simple, Amelia is far more detailed and intelligent.

My research or awareness goes back to 1974-1978 because of George Helm death at sea, navigationl family, and nuclear free pacific.

Years later, when I had the chance I went to North Carolina and stood in a Cabin where James Polk lived before and after his Presidency. The Texas Mexican war has major similarities with Hawaii and it's annexation Kaohi

  • It takes a lot more than just venting, it takes 'Thinking' and a strong will to determine ones destiny into the 21st century. Teaching my students how to read is one part, the challenge is the complex thinking process. Most of my students have never been exposed to 'good' education, out here in Waianae and we must persist past the WALL of total ignorance, even within ourselves.

I teach by day and by night long days ahead, so give it some thought. No man is an island and we must share and share, if not others will do the speaking for you for 'media literacy' is here to stay. Happy heartfelt research surpasses the oppressors intent.

One last note for those of us that work within the state system, we risk our jobs each day!! And many of us have gotten fired more than once because of our political stance. It takes communication to maintain an 'ideal balance' between paying bills, taking a stance, and caring for family. Some people may not have any responsibilities like we do, I know how hard it is to take care of extended family from dad to great-grandchildren and maintain my stance of independence from America's abuse.

Need to go to work, soon lay offs and furlough will be upon us, take care yourself and ones family the movement will always be around the corner. Check out my thinking process, one that I use every waking moment of the day. It helps to get past the need to engage and sleep at nights only to wake up in the morning with full intent to give others a space to share their thoughts and feelings. It's all part of growing and strengthening ones spirit and gray matter too. As uncle Sam Lono would say, use your head!!!!

  • ALOHA Kakou, The Constitution of the United States does not allow the Congress to recognize Native Hawaiians as Native Americans. Native American recgonition is for the Indians of the North American continent. Not for the Indegenous Native people of the Hawaiian Kingdom nation. As for the Congress of the United States re-organize (amend) the Constituion of the Government of the Hawaiian Kingdom that too the Congress does not have power lawfully to do. Especailly now when more and more Native Hawaiians are going home to the Hawaiian Kingdom nation as Hawaiian Nationals. Giving the Hawaiian Kingdom nation the lives that the Kingdom needs to be a Living Nation once more. Since January 17, 1993 when I renounced my citizenship to the United States I've gone home to my Hawaii, the Hawaiian Kingdom nation. More and More Native Hawaiians, Kanaka Maoli should who says that they want Independence should go home to their nation, the Hawaiian Kingdom. Stop the Venting. Long Live The Hawaiian Kingdom, o Pomai
  • Ku,

Not surprise to read this posting. As you know a couple of women went to our Hawaiian leaders in 1974 for the use of the ceded land revenues. It was at that time in the amount of 14 million and when we checked again in 1978, these revenues was going from the general fund and into the Department of Education. So, a few of the native Hawaiian women from the homesteads (with 50% bloodquantum) asked for a small part of that revenues. Writing went on the Wall at QLCC in Kaimuki before the Hawaiian Leaders that were advisors to Governor Ariyoshi.

Face to face with these advisors-- I was told this wonderful plumbing from general fund to a Hawaiian office (entity) which would be created within the 1978 constitution. Not clear but at least get the gist. The native Hawaiian women advised these so called Hawaiian leaders against the formation of this entity, and messing with the constitution and the US equal voting amendment. It was clearly at that time that Jon Van Dyke had an agenda, needed stalling time, and clearly understood the process to impoverish our people. What they forgot and so did the governess at the recent Hawaii Convention Center that Hawaii has two beneficiaries one the general public that is 'you' and the other is native Hawaiians (I me and myself).

These experts not only passed Gvoernment 101, and Economic 101 they've created Alvin Toffler 2-3 wave of mythical meyham. Ku give me something that I don't know.

What came forward in these years of stalling that every one forgot about was Judge Richardsons 'natural court' and the British common law embedded into the water rights. Mmmmm and of course a lot of other things like the UN. It's taken a long time for new and bright people to join in and it will take many more years before it clears' it self, but we will be long gone. So all that yaya, which is understandable for some will disappear in the information age and skillfull communication entities.

As for who owns Hawaiian lands big question? when one doesn't apply the Hawaii State (5f) to it's psche. Kaohi
    • Recently attorney Maivan Lam, maybe saying what I said in a more concise and understandable language (for some people, wrote this about the akaka bill (that I hadn't seen until this morning, Thursday, August 27):

Section 1 summary. Title: “Native Hawaiian Re-organization Act of 2009”.

COMMENT. The U.S. unlawfully enabled the overthrow of the government of the Hawaiian kingdom in 1893, thereby injuring all its citizens, Kanaka Maoli (KM) as well as non-KM. It is therefore the descendants of these multi-ethnic citizens, or heirs of the kingdom, and not the U.S. Congress via the device of the Akaka Bill, who are entitled to re-create a government of their choice today using processes of their own selection.
