Building our Nation from the Inside Out

Aloha e Kakou,

I recently started having a conversation with someone regarding building our nation from the inside out.  We were sort of in the wrong space to have that conversation so I moved it here.  It would be really great if other people could share their opinions on this subject as well.

Some background:  When we think about building our nation, a lot of times we get into thinking about just governing systems, but an important thing to think about is that governing systems are like the icing on the cake.  Just before moving this conversation here, I was saying "our government can only ever be as strong as our nation" and that to build a nation requires doing some kind WORK, "blood, sweat and tears" sort of work to build up our nation from the inside out.  I was talking about how, in this time when we often find ourselves at odds with our politics, there are some projects going on today which we can agree help us all strengthen the nation from within and will make us strong enough to even build a government and all the other things we need.  It is therefore necessary for us to get involved with or even create our own projects that serve this purpose.

One of the types of projects that most clearly suits this purpose in my opinion and which I see already going on today are projects surrounding food sovereignty.

I am also working on creating some projects right now which I call "exercises in independence."  The point of these projects is to answer to our ongoing sense that we don't just need an answer as a nation to "what kind of nation are we going to have later" but instead "what is the PROCESS for building that nation?"  Also these projects speak to other concerns about the fact that we don't just want to be independent, but we want to be a THRIVING people.  And so, towards those ends, I always think, we have to work to exercise our strengths that we have right now and actually start carrying out projects where we are working for our own people for our own betterment.  This IS what a true nation is - it's a group of people working and cooperating together for our own betterment.

Some other things to think about include "breaking the ties to outside funding sources" since we've seen how outside funding often dictates our projects and even corrupts some people and creates a widening of the gap between the richest and the poorest Hawaiian people.

Some questions I would like to ask others are:

1) what is your opinion on all of this?

2) what projects do you see going on today which  help to "build up the nation from the inside out?"

3) what kinds of ideas for future projects do other people have??

mahalo to your ohana nation....for they already get one Akamai.....Leader as you Kelea~~~

asking questions is how we learn lessons, however in my mama's generation,

they was always told "kulikuli kou waha" to be quiet your mouth" and that they

    did to their DEATHS.....in silence.

we are of the next aggessive educated in american and in native hawaiian kanaka maoli,

this is the generation that will Lead our next future generations of native hawaiian kanaka maoli's,

into their Native Hawaiian Kingdom on our Sacred Kingdom Hawaiian Islands...may our Kingdom Heirs

step forward and IMUA together in Unity as one UNIT.......many more wonderful

Blessings and to always IMUA "move forward" and Learn the Lessons to be taught very soon...........mauruuru

  • Mahalo Kaohi and da princess for your posts.

Da princess - I love what you are doing.  It's so right.  I wish all the Kupuna could go around and gather up the young people and teach them right and wrong.  We need that so badly right now. Lots of lost people going around forgetting themselves

Kaohi - don't worry about Paka.  Epeli Hau'ofa once talked about how when people are in dire conditions, they will often become very religious and that this is how we sometimes get here in the Pacific too.  For us, sometimes we get something like a religious zealousness towards our politics and if someone comes along poking holes in the doctrine, and questioning the political Jesus, people start to get very upset and unreasonable.  That's what happened with me and Paka.  I don't know what to think about that.  Part of me feels like when I talk to very religious people - when you see the unreasonableness come out, maybe it's better to just let them have their peace.  I can't hold back the truth though and maybe its better to hear first from our people rather than finding it out the hard way.    ????

    • I love Keanu and know he is going through so much pain and suffering and I lost so much good brothers in this process, I really don't want to see this happen to him.  He is strong will, fair and open to others opinion at least that is what he does with me.

However, we both know that his dissertation needs to be challenged thats the way academics are.  I'm the miss happening, and I don't know how to support him in the challege process.  So if you did much thanks.

As for Paka, no he did a disservice to his people and I am holding him to the defense line.  We both went before the AEC and NRC and as equals to the Pentagon.  I was complaining about the DU being transfered from Schofield to Makua and leaving a dirty trail of Nuclear Isotopes for our children to sponge.  He tried to interfere with the process.  They're three types of  'Rehabilitation' on the defense line when they should have been only one.  Rehabilitation for native Hawaiians with 50% plus bloodquantum (Pohakuloa is DHHL) should have been the only form of rehabilitation..instead there was Rehabilitation for Veterans, and Rehabilitation for Disability.  All three rehabilitation created a swil of aggregated abstract crap!  Long story!

Where I'm at --on all fronts as a woman I have a voice, that pisses off the so called men or little boys.  So the fricken shame (whore) garbage rolls out on this forum.   Mahu end game kine crap and the weakness of our people begins to show face on google.  I don't have time for small winnie's.

      Mahalo always for the return

  • at least i know for sure that if i do die.......it will not be in silence.....i will Kukanaka (stand tall), as one kupuna wahine warrior on our Kingdom of Maui Nui tells me.....in her kuleana (scared place), if the foreigner treaspass, i going shoot em. and i not holding back and that she has a special place just for Intruders???......for they (the outside Intruders) is in my kuleana and i malama everthing in, around and on my property as the spoken Konohiki (care taker), hummmmmmm~~~

i Respect her Mana (spiritual powers) to her Sacred Land and to her Sacred Human Rights, period. as well as all others that Trespass, for you (Intruders) will be responsible and accountable for your wrongful actions.....that is why now, it is in the making of Usa laws to fine and penalize any who suggest and or guide trespassors on our Sacred lands (our Kuleana). .....we are in a resolution of dealing from with in and do what is right (pono) to weed out the INTRUDERS!!!....so be it....mahalo Ke Akua.....mauruuru for his Leadership in Rightousness....da princess

  • If one going posting on the forum would appreciate you maintaing your site.
  • Kelea,

No worry about Isaac, he is like the rest not able to see beyond the experience (subjectivity)  Slaming Kenau was what he probably needed.  One cannot be in the academic community and serve his people without the punches.  Not sure what you said, but I suspect you kicked him in the nuts.  No worry he going survive, because there was a lot of women before you.  I myself included, but I am too attracted to Keanu to give him the leverage he needs, so, I hid behind the 'Martens Clause'.  My attraction is because I (weakness) detest decolonization process with a passion.  I should use the word dislike for social reasons.

In all sincerity, I appreciate Keanu's guts in writing his disseration on deoccupation.  But, he needs that opposing views however mucky it is.  So thanks for challenging him.  I hate that mahu shit,  I'm talking about the terroristic end game that other defense lines have to deal with.  I love gay's and do support their union.  But, that other crap... that dodo boys play sucks!  On the otherhand I also live in a mono community at first glance, look beyond the 'bloodquantum' and one will see a community filled with peoples from all over the world.  Any public school near DHHL one would see a diverse classroom.  Sadly, there too is a lack of understanding as to the classroom problems.  What seems bully, neglect, gang are actually close knit mono cultural-myth clashes.

I suspect that Keanu will fall short of his objective.  I don't think his committee is going to fully support his disertation or publication, I know I won't.  What a hypocrite I am!!!!  One cannot publish without sponsors money!

I have listened to Keanu from the onset and from that very beginning...I felt that he had a valid argument and that contention would serve the future generation in their struggles for their own freedom.  I strongly believe that they need substance to argue from and not the kind one see which is 'windmills.

All that I can pray for is that more like you be in his face!  As for Hui Pu no worry they know that the sacred cow is a sacrificial lamb!  My beautiful neice is in that group and I'm always concern, just being a protective aunty.

As for the inside, at this time its to hollow when it should be hallow!  Much aloha for your persistance

  • aloha kelea,

3). after a long extensive research into my Pure Hawaiian mama's lineage (direct royal Bloodline, to Queen Keopuolani and King William Lunalilo.....i have set up workshops to educate my immediate ohana nation of our Kaina, Kumaewa, Kaleo and Momona Ohana's on our Kingdom of Maui Nui.

to date, i have hand over our ohanas livng and lighted Torch and passed my knowledge of my Mo'okuauhau (genealogy) to my next generation......that is now the Konohiki's (care takers) of our ohana nation to continue the teachings and to educate from with in our own ohana's first in ALOHA (having unconditional love) with in the family unit first.....knowing right (pono) from wrong (hewa).......knowing good (maika'i) to bad (pilau).......this next generation of eager learners in my ohana nation will begin our Mo'okuauhau meeting starting next month. Lots of Lessons to be Learned very soon from with in first......today it is us the living kupuna's that is now RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE for our next future generation that is being observed and watched to be the examples to lead with kindness and sharing our Aloha.........again Kelea you are right (being in pono) to do what is right and teaching from with in first........mahalo Ke Akua for his Leadership and Guidance......mauruuru

  • aloha kelea,

2). i highly Honor my Mo'okuauhau (genealogy), we need to identify our ownselves first....of who we are? (one plantationer, one immigrant, one migrant, one Usa citizen resident, one Native Hawaiian Kanaka Maoli) this will give you the answer of where you belong? (in Phiilipines, in Japan, in the Usa of americans, in Tonga, in Samoa, in China, or on your SACRED AHUPUA'A--LAND OF YOUR ANCESTORS as being the Host Culture of our Hawaiian Kingdom Legal Government), hummmmmmm? If one knows of who they are and where they come from or belong on.......this will bring much understanding and/or RESPECT to one other, period.

my generation today we have leaders with Blinders on, guiding us for 18 yrs after the Apology Bill signed in Congress 1993, still seeing the battle among our Blood brothers and sisters of GREED, POWER and PRIDE......for the betterment of themselves not for our people. Our next future generation is hungry for Truth and Guidance.....i pray to humble the hearts of mankind on our Sacred Lands and Prevail Justice to all (the good and the bad).....and i ask for Ke Akua rightous Leadership and Guidance to move forward (IMUA) in Unity as one UNIT of Native Hawaiian Kanaka Maoli's.......Again Kelea you are right.....to teach from with in first.......mauruuru

  • aloha kelea,

1). we have to let personal conflicts among native hawaiian kanaka maoli's be in the light of Ke Akua.....to always Aloha (having unconditional love) towards each other.......enough of the bashing and pilau talk......i await rightful Actions.....for actions speaks louder than (hibijibi/putting down) words.

makes me view the pu'uwai (evil heart of such ones)...i been dea, done dat being lead by wrongful leaders in my mist and surroundings, until my living Kupunas of Aloha showed me the way and Ke Akua lead me to the TRUTHS, for we are from and with in a BLIND, LOST and NEGLICTED generation today,  all i do is observe and learn a lesson like the discussions on this forum.....sometimes pride and jealousy plays a big role to seek peace with in our ownselves and we become our own ENEMY, looking for others to join in and fight a useless battle, against our own blood brothers and sisters of this Royal Hawaiian Kingdom and her legal Government. Lets Unite in Rightousness.....and start to think "Native Hawaiian Kanaka Maoli" then apply the sacred ways of our Kupuna Kahiko (ancestors), for only a few was raised the right way, and the others needs to be taught with kindness and Ho'omanawanui (be patient) while teaching the education of our Sacred Ancestors. For our sacred lands can not survive without the sacredness of our people.......teach from with in first......i agree with you Kelea.....mauruuru
