Alternative Fish Farms in Hawai'i

Recently, some westerner asked about alternatives of fish farming which would improve U.S. economy and Hawaii would be an ideal place to institute this type of method in raising fish.

It never ceases to amaze me how they play on semantics and ownership of ideas and practices.  There is no difference in western concepts of fish farms and Hawaiian fishponds/land-based fish raising that was practiced for over a thousand years.  Like they say, nothing is new under the sun; it's a method that is practiced according to one's environment, culture, and experimentation (science).  Conservation practices were imbued in an island atmosphere and culture.  Deep-sea fishing conservation was also practiced in Hawaii because of the regional practices and limitations dependent on available resources and dependent of fish runs, habits and fish procreation cycles.   Lawai'a practices were due to knowledge and science in fishing.  It was a matter of maintaining a balance and gathering practices in taking what was needed and not over-fishing.  So, the point is that the question is preaching to the choir about alternatives.  Western concepts are ownership and possession of resources as prescribed by the Papa Bull edicts that is the foundation of the Western Manifest Destiny doctrines as are practiced even to today.
