aloha kakou, Uluhaimalama, a collection of poetry by Mahealani Perez-Wendt, is being launched by Kuleana 'Oiwi Press (the publisher of 'oiwi: a native hawaiian journal) at the UH Manoa Art Auditorium on Saturday, March 15th from 5:30-8:30 pm. Scheduled to read poetry for the event include Mahealani Perez-Wendt, along with other indigenous poets and writers Joy Harjo, Albert Wendt, Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, 'Imaikalani Kalahele, Brandy Nalani McDougall and Ku'ualoha Ho'omanawanui. Though this is her premiere collection, Mahealani Perez-Wendt has been writing and publishing her poetry throughout Hawai'i, the Pacific, and the United States for the past 30 years. She is the recipient of an Elliott Cades Award for Literature. Uluhaimalama also marks the premiere of Kuleana 'Oiwi Press' Ho'oulu Hou Wayne Kaumualii Westlake series featuring individual collections of Kanaka Maoli literature. Hope to see you there!
