1 Billion Bail Out to Hawaii since February

HONOLULU -- The Senate Committee on Appropriations will meet in open session at 9:30 am on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the State Capitol Building, Room 325, Senate Appropriations Chairman Daniel K. Inouye announced today. The hearing is being held to gauge the progress the state has made spending federal stimulus dollars provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. More than $1 billion was appropriated for Hawaii in February through the ARRA. The program, entitled "Stimulating Hawaii's Economy: Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," will allow Chairman Inouye to receive status reports and question government officials and representatives from other agencies. Chairman Inouye wants to ensure the federal funds are being carefully spent and used to fund projects, create jobs and bolster support services. There is a scheduled list of witnesses, including Governor Linda Lingle, State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa and Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann. Written statements and testimony from non-scheduled witnesses are welcome. __._,_.___
