  • His 2nd wife was Helen Hoke and his sons were Edwin(RIP) Harry(RIP), John Jr., and a few Aunts I never met None, Bertha, and Evelyn. My real great grandmother is said to be Portuguese from generations of Hawaiian Portuguese and was a SGT in the US Army during the 1st World War. On My grandfather's birth certificate she shows up as "Marie Perry" when in fact it is Marie Perreira/Pirrira/Pirrera/Pereira who remarried to US Coast Guard Peter Zilkan and adopted her son's(grandpa Harry Sr.'s) son Harry Jr. aka Harry Joseph Zilkan Born April 5th 1947 a Fire Chief in San Bernadino and retired 1st Class Sergeant with 4 purple hearts several bronzes and silver dollars, 3 tours of nam, over 100 jumps in combat as Special Forces Green Beret of the 7th Medic group US Army Who also cut the heads
off of Vietcom leaders in their huts, had bullet wounds, shrapnel from landmines,
and pieces of a rod stuck in his foot from the Vietcom when he was taken captive. I'm very proud to mention this Hawaiian as my uncle. A born natural at football too ;) My cousin Edwin(Son of My Great uncle Edwin son of
my great great grandma Rachel's son John) also lives on Maui with a few children of
his own. He trains all the cops here or at least
he was one of the trainer. His father Edwin/Buddy(My great uncle) was also a cop
as well a John(Both brothers to my grandfather Harry George Among of Honolulu.
Who'se right hand man was a prison corrections officer that actually defeated
Casius Clay(Muhammad Ali) in boxing on the original score cards before they rigged
the fight on boxing records and stated that he fought Duke Sabedong under the name
Muhammad Ali and outscored him. They lied about the event after the fact and Duke
didn't get a second chance to beat him. Original score card 15-8.
  • It was told to me by my great grandfather John Among that she was sold in marriage at the age of 12 and the time of her marriage to Goo was 1894. This would mean that id she was 12 at the time that she was actually 15 at the signing and her real birthdate was 1882 not 1877 or 1885. He also mentioned to quite a few members including me, my brother, and father Wayne of Honolulu (RIP) that he was the son of an affair that Rachel had with a man named Kauwa(This is what it sounded like to me as I wasn't familiar with Kaaua until more recently seeing the headstone of Kalahiki and reading this forum), of so I thought his name was until more recently. So, I really need to find out about this to make things ponopono. He never mentioned having ill will towards Goo as he was a very kindhearted man and the 6th
or 7th child of Rachel. Many died at early years or at birth that were sibblings as
I understood it. But, he also mentioned a few of his sibblings were of this
different father's blood also. But, I do not recollect. He is buried right next
to his 2nd wife at Maui memorial cemetary in Wailuku at Roselani section 19 plot
    82B4.
  • I'm interested to find the marriage date between Rachel/Rachael Lokinihama"Rockingham" Kekuanui/Keakuanui/Mrs. Among and Enoka/EnochKaaua and even the divorce date from her from Mr. Among. It is all very interesting to me as I'd like to know the time frame of these events. Also, on her gravestone at Kalahiki Cemetary it has the last names Among-Kaaua on her stone and that she was born 1885. This is incorrect because first of all I've seen it documented elsewhere she was born 1877 which would make her 20 at the time of the Anti-Annexation signing which would appear correct. If 1885 was correct it just meant that she had the heart to do it and went ahead at the age of 12 stating she was 20.
  • I thought I saw some Kauwe here & there. I know Lana told me those exact names a long time ago, but only later...actually recently as 3 or 4 yrs ago i found out about Rachel remarrying. It was from a cousin-in-law of mine named Nanette. That's b/c the woman I mentioned as my grandma's (hanai) sister Elizabeth Bush, was an ex-mother-in-law to Nanette. At least one way. :) It was Nanette who said that Enoch Kaaua (hanai father to Elizabeth) had remarried to Rachel Lokinihana. Enoch's first wife was Emily Kaaeamoku. Nanette's grandmother was Nancy Kaaeamoku, a sister to Emily. That's how she knew of the 2nd marriage. Plus Elizabeth Bush's father was a half brother to Nancy and Emily Kaaeamoku. So in reality, Nanette was 1st cousin once removed to Elizabeth. Nanette was married to Elizabeth's son. lol But you know how that goes.

Cousin Melanie Thompson tends to her grandmother's property there in Hookena. I think she said it was next to Kawika Cipriano's property? I dunno if I got that correct. But Melanie said that b/c of my researching the people there, she never realized the connection to Kawika's "Nahinu" ohana. My grandma had 2 kids from a Nahinu. Melanie's grandma was Julia Bush who married Wm. Thompson. Julia was the youngest, Elizabeth was one of the older ones, and my granmda...also named Julia was way younger than those 2.
  • Hui e Frank,

I had to be niele, noticing you mentioned Hookena on Lana's page and her mentioning Rockingham which I found for her in the Kue Petition many yrs. ago. My ties go back to Hookena too. In fact, Rachel had remarried to Enoch Kaaua, who was previously married to Louisa Kaaeamoku. Both Enoch and Louisa had a hanai daughter - elizabeth "kapeka" bush. My grandma was hanai'd by elizabeth's birth mother - julia wahakoele kaai. And my grandma's step-father's family, who was probably related to Julia Kaai somehow, had ties to S. Kona. I've traced quite a bit of families of that area.
  • Sorry but I'm on the road so didn't get back to you. I'm gonna write an email to you via my personal email.

    Aloha, Lana

  • Kalamai but the pictures of grandma Rachel and Goo Among which I post in my Maoliworld profile are the only pictures that I have of them. Johnette was the one who shared it with others.

    Malama~~ Lana
  • Okay I can see that your father is hmmm... Francis Kahawai and your mother is Patricia? There are so many branches that's why so it's kinda difficult for me to see all of it but Bessie was I believe the 5th child while Henry was the 7th out of 12. Kala mai but got so many people in our family.

Rockingham was just the haolefied version of Lokinihama at the time so I wrote it out because some people knew her as that. She was the daughter of Benny Keakuanui and Pale Kauwe. My book is kinda huge though. With so many people then got some side branches. Grandma Rachel also married someone else after Goo Among and saw that she signed the Ku'e Anti-Annexation Petition. I have sent copies of it to some of my aunts because some of them didn't know and they cried when I showed it to them. I believe she is #24 here:

under Mrs. Lokini Among. She was only 20 which I think is pretty awesome!

Well I believe your grandfather Henry had 10 children. The Among family is huge which is an understatement.

Nice to meet you here too. Aloha, Lana
  • Hi Frank. Kalamai... but I don't know a lot. I am looking through my genealogy records on my Among side. I descend from Bessie. Are you from John, Edmund, or Henry? Just curious. Aloha, Lana
