This is going to be an uphill battle in the mind-set of our people and the current political leaders. The problem is the current leaders who continue to move in the wrong direction since 1893 will do anything to stop us from uniting and becoming a voice of one with the body of millions of people both Kanaka Maoli and non-Kanaka Maoli. However, I feel it in my heart our nation will be returned for all the World to embrace. Maybe not in my life-time, but it will happen because of the seeds you and I and our past and present leaders have planted and now the roots are taking stock.
The society we live in today is based upon self achievement with everyone reaching for the top to receive the monetary benefits of today's worldly needs.
We tend to forget, that our Kanaka Maoli ancestors had a society that builds upon the people helping and working together in making life a better place for their elders, women, and children.
In life, we can never eliminate elements of human behavior due to hatred, jealousy, and thievery etc.. Wars are inevitable at times. However, there were periods of long lasting peace and harmony among our nation of Kanaka Maoli's due to justice and equal rights of all citizens in their government or ohana.
In Ka'u my ancestors had to be Pono to govern as a Ali'i class or the people of Ka'u will kill him or her and replace them with another chiefly line that follows the kanawai and the laws of the land and to serve the people fairly and with love.
My name has several meanings, you can borrow a book from the library called The Polynesian Family system in Ka'u hawaii by Dr Handy and Kawena Pukui, Keli'iKanaka'ole means The Chief without servants.
He was a Chief loved by his people because he served his people. He never liked being called Keli'iKanaka'ole just Kanaka'ole. He did not want to be known as a Chief so that when he traveled around all the Islands to visit family and friends only they knew he was Royal Blood. The common people had no clue that this man working the fields with them was of Chiefly stock. Some of the commoners and chiefs that were cruel to their people were easily discovered by him and they were dealt harshly by him and his army so that the people of that village can have a better way of life.
Anyways, thank you again for supporting our Freedom. It is not about race it is about unconditional love of mankind and all living creations on this earth.
This world can be a better place, it is up to us as a nation to unite and reap the benefits of our fore-fathers by being fair to all the people.
